Myself and my husband stayed for 5 nights in the Hotel 57 in early April. I booked through the hotels wbsite and got an excellent rate especially with the euro exchange rate. We arrived late on a Friday evening from Las Vegas, and having stayed in the Signature MGM while there this was to be the budget element of our stay. We really only needed a safe, convenient location for shopping and sighseeing. We were more than impressed with every aspect of our stay. The front desk offered us the option of two rooms which we were free to examine before deciding. Although offered a large room on the top floor it seemed a little cold (it still being early Spring in NYC and quite cold) so we opted for our original room allocation on the sixth floor. This room was very quiet with a side view of Lexington Ave, was modern in design, absolutely spotless and very comfortable. The bed, while not being King size was particularly good. The room was tiny with barely enough room to walk around the bed, but who spends their days or nights circuling their bedroom in Manhattan?!
The location was perfect, at 57and Lexington, and right opposite the Fitzpatrick, which I'm guessing is far more expensive. We walked all over upper Manhattan, and took the 6 subway line to Lower, there is a station about two blocks up Lexington. The location really is excellent and we felt really safe at night.
We had drinks in the bar, which is under different ownership on the Saturday night. The bar had a really cool vibe with a young clientele, which looked like locals and regulars rather than tourists. We had dinner earlier that nite in BLT Restaurant a few doors away on 57. That was very good and our treat for the NYC stop on our US holiday.
Overall I would highly recommend this hotel, all Manhattan hotels are expensive but if you can get a good rate, it is a good option if you need a safe, clean and comfortable base in the middle of all Upper Manhattan has to offer.

First impression of the room was very good, very modern bathroom.
However as we soon realised the room was a touch on the small side there was enough room for two people to walk around the bed.
I found the bed to be one of the most comfertable i have ever slept in. We were on the 8th floor overlooking the street and didn't hear any noise during the night.
The air condition was a god send due to the heat outside i must add though that it is a bit on the noisy side.
We stayed in a standard room and there was a hairdryer and iron in the room which is doesn't state on the website.
Overall i was very pleased with this hotel.

I stayed for 4 nights at Hotel 57 in New-York city.
Service was very average with a reception staff that seems to forget they work for service industry.
When I arrived, I was given a room that was already occupied. I had to get back to the reception desk to get another room with almost no excuse except "system issues".
My room on 10th floor had a window on Lexington and 57th that is an extremely busy and noisy location. The window was absolutely not sound proof... The noise from outdoor was partially covered by the noise of the air conditionner, probably unchanged since the 50's.
Cleanliness was also very average with stains on the carpet and a very bad smell.
The room size was also very limited, approximately 10 sqm, mainly the space for a queen bed and almost nothing else. Even TV and desk were fitted in the walls to save place.
I would finish with very limited services: no minibar in the room, no breakfast at the restaurant.
As a conclusion, except the very good location in New-York city, I would not recommand at all the hotel.

Overall, the hotel was sufficient, but not great.
On the plus side, the hotel has a nice, modern look about it. The lobby is on the second floor, which is a bit odd and possibly confusing if you didn't know ahead of time. Also, the hotel is located in a good location, about a couple of blocks from Central Park.
However, the hotel had three big down-sides in the 2 nights I was there. First, the room itself was extremely small. There was a single queen size bed in the room and about 3 feet of clearance to the walls on 3 sides. Add the bathroom and a small closet and that was it. Not a good room for hanging out or entertaining. Secondly, the hotel doesn't have ice machines. You have to call the front desk and someone will bring ice to your room. But of the three times we called for ice, we only got it once. Finally, though we were out all day after the first night, our room was not cleaned by the time we returned in the late afternoon. In fact, the maid service did not arrive until 5 pm, at which time we were getting ready to go out.
I know hotels are expensive in NYC, but you'd think for $250 per night the service would be better. But, if you can get a good rate, it is not a terrible place to stay by any means -- just small.

Great location, but some niggles with hotel
Guest name: A keen traveller, Edinburgh, Scotland
First, the good. The hotel's location couldn't be bettered. It's literally one block from the Four Seasons Hotel, and one block from Bloomingdales, in mid-town Manhattan. The other great thing about the hotel is the wonderful Palace Restaurant diner next door to the hotel (but not connected to the hotel). We had excellent breakfasts there each morning.
Unfortunately, the hotel has some bad points too. As others have pointed out, it may look good but the rooms place emphasis on style over function. The wash basin never drained properly, despite being "fixed", because of its poor design (it did look nice, though!). And because of a chunky, lit headboard, the bed stood out a foot from the wall into the room - meaning that you couldn't fully open the wardrobe doors at the end of the bed. And although staff were friendly enough, they regularly forgot requests (our sofa bed was only made up after our 3rd request, the TV fixed only after our 2nd request, etc).
The acid test is "would I stay there again?" I suspect the answer to this is yes. For its great location, I'd probably be willing to put up with the niggles.
