I made the reservation direct with the hotel that told me that a cancellation free of charge was possible till two days before my arrive. After I sent my credit card (10 days before I leave) to guaranty my reservation they informed me I couldn't cancel anymore and charged my credit card, so I had to pay the total ammount for 4 people before leaving Brasil!!! The hotel acomodations are ok, the breakfast is very good but people are not friendly and never give you your messages. I advise you NOT TO SEND THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!!!!

First We found cockroachs "on the bed". We asked for another room and they complaied and we even had to show the cockroach to the person in charge. Afteralls we got another room, quite noisy by the way. We treatment was very rude and breakfast was not very well. Having known all we spent the first night we very kindly asked to stay another two nights but changing the room. The person in charge was ok with the idea so the next day we asked for the number of the other room and she denied the question. So we have to argued with her and finally she accepted to do that. The other room was so quite nevertheless the shower was broken. Apart two people from the hotel the treatment was not very ok and they don´t resolve problems properly. I know quite well hotels in Berlin and the are usually clean, cheap and have nice people.

This hotel has some charm, with it's old fashioned furniture. Thank God our room was on the first floor as there is no elevator. Breakfast was good. There is a restaurant, which we decided to try one night, but it was buffet only. The kitchen was closed that night, so they had no a la carte. The food was nothing special at all,mostly cold dishes, not recommendable. The room and bathroom was modern and comfortable. The negative things was the noise from the street, and the desk staff. The girl at the desk the first day was lovely. But the night receptionist was very unfriendly and not helpful at all. He barely spoke or understood a word of english.The day we were leaving (very early in the morning), he didn't seem to know the prosedures for cheking out guests. He seemed very confused about everything. He asked for 66 euros although the room was prepaid. When I asked him for an explanation he didn't seem to understand. He just pointed at the reciept and said something in german that non of us understood. We had no choice but to pay the 66 euros even though we didn't know what we payed for and the reciept didn't say anything about what it was. And when we asked if he could call a taxi for us, he didn't say a word, he just made the phone call and said something in german that non of us understood a word of. This was a very unpleasant experience. Aside from that, the room and bathroom was exeptionally clean, and the beds were good. I don't think I will choose this hotel the next time I am going to Berlin (a wonderful city by the way).

Cet hôtel a un certain charme, avec son mobilier ancien. Il n’y avait pas d’ascenseur, mais Dieu soit loué, nous étions au 1er étage. Le petit déjeuner était bon, il y avait un restaurant qu’on a décidé de tester pour dîner un soir, mais il n’y avait qu’un buffet, pas de menu à la carte, la cuisine étant fermée ce soir-là. Ce n’était pas particulièrement excellent, surtout des plats froids en fait, bref, pas à recommander. La chambre et la salle de bains étaient modernes et confortables. Le problème, c’était le bruit de la rue et le personnel de la réception. Le premier jour, on est tombés sur une gentille fille à la réception. Mais le réceptionniste de nuit n’était pas aimable et pas du tout serviable. Il parlait à peine anglais et ne comprenait pas grand-chose non plus. Le jour de notre départ (très tôt le matin), apparemment il ne connaissait pas la procédure à suivre quand un client s’en va. Il avait l’air complètement désemparé et perplexe. Il nous a demandé de régler 66 € alors qu’on avait déjà réglé la chambre à l’avance. Et quand je lui ai demandé une explication, il n’a pas eu l’air de comprendre, nous a montré le reçu en disant quelque chose en allemand qu’aucun de nous n’a compris. On n’avait pas d’autre choix que de payer les 66 € sans savoir à quoi cela correspondait, car en plus ce n’était pas indiqué sur le reçu non plus. Et quand on lui a demandé s’il pouvait nous réserver un taxi, il n’a pas prononcé un mot, a passé un coup de fil en disant quelque chose en allemand qu’aucun de nous n’a compris là non plus. C’était très déplaisant. A part cela, la chambre et la salle de bains étaient d’une propreté exceptionnelle et les lits confortables. La prochaine fois que j’irai à Berlin, qui est une ville magnifique, soit dit en passant, je ne crois pas que j’irai à cet hôtel.

Ma femme et moi avons dormi à l’Altberlin fin août 2006. Après nous être remis du "choc" de devoir monter trois étages à notre arrivée (pas d’ascenseurs !) et habitués à l’aspect médiéval de la réception, nous avons trouvé que cet hôtel était vraiment plus que satisfaisant à tous points de vue, et vraiment d’un bon rapport qualité/prix (un conseil en passant : essayez de réserver sur internet, car les prix indiqués à la réception sont beaucoup plus élevés). Le petit déjeuner était excellent et le dîner très bon pour le prix. Personnel serviable et chambres confortables. Quant à l’emplacement, c’est un hôtel très central, avec des stations de métro facilement accessibles à proximité, Philarmonic Hall et Potsdam Square. Si vous n’aimez pas les escaliers, pensez à demander une chambre à un étage du bas. Si vous voulez être sûr d’être tranquille, demandez une chambre donnant sur la cour intérieure. Le patron de l’hôtel fait tout pour qu'on ait l’impression de voyager dans le temps et de se retrouver dans le Berlin du 19ème siècle. C’est un petit hôtel, ce qui est primordial car cela le rend plus convivial.
