very dissapointed, mostly with the service

we needed a one night in La Manga Mar Menor, it was a last minute booking admitedly so i didnt have time to do as much research as I normally would . I wish I had now, I t did not get our holiday off to a very good start. The hotel itself is physically Ok. Modern lobby, nice sized rooms, very clean in the rooms. the problems seem to be with the service. We were only there about 12 hours, but I dont think a single member of staff smiled at us, and were downright unhelpful. we arrived just after 10.30pm restaurants were all just closing and didnt want to do food for us. and room service was not possible either dispite being advertised. eventually the relented and said they could do us a burger ( vile ) the hotel pictures on their web site are very well shot. there arent really any sea views, ( unless you count peering through the cracks in the high rise buildingsd opposite. )and the view of the pool is deceptive, when you are down at the pool you only see other high rises and theres no view of the sea. on the o ther side of the hotel is a very busy major road , which you have to navigate to get over to the beach. other little things like, room service trolly's left outside rooms for 12 hours ( these were the lucky people that managed to get room service ) . I just dont think its acceptable for a hotel that professes to be 4star. most of these things are over comeable if only the staff were more cheery and helpful.

This is a 3 star hotel with pretensions to be a four star. I would not recommend it. In fact, I would positively encourage people to look elsewhere for accommodation. Let me be specific -
We chose this hotel on the basis that it was rated four star. It was the most expensive of the 4 star hotels on the Mar Menor and the glowing description of itself on its own website compelled us to book it. They state in the description of their hotel that the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean are accessible without leaving the hotel premises-untrue. You have to cross the busy highway to access the Mediterranean Sea. They promise Gastronomy - tIt is not, the food is terrible. It is about as close to Gastronomy as day is to night!! On their website, they offered a special deal for residents to use their spa facilities but yet when I visited, they asked me to pay full fees. We assumed we were getting quality. Questions on our choice arose as soon as we arrived at the hotel. When we checked in, we were charged the full amount of our stay in advance!!. Our questions continued about our choice of hotel - No milk provision in the room to make a cup of tea/coffee, charges for internet access in the room,
extra charges for use of indoor pool and saunas.
Breakfast buffet was served from 8am until 10.30am. We never got there until after 9am. Good selection of cereals etc., but abysmal if you wanted hot food. Scrambled eggs, beans, fried bacon, fried eggs were either cold, unsavoury or unattractive.
On our second night in the hotel we decided to eat in the restaurant in the hotel. Our biggest mistake. It was a buffet . The food was cold and unappetising. The waitress was ignorant and arrogant. We complained the following day and the management apologised and admitted that the food was not up to standard. They had the decency to accept that and they did not charge us for the meal.
The standard of accommodation in this hotel is generally OK. Rooms are modern, clean, bright and spacious. However, I would not stay there again for the following reasons - very bad food, misleading information on hotel facilities and much too expensive for quality offered and provided. In short, avoid it!!!!
