Terrible
Guest name: keentraveller57, Australia
Booked room online in Australia. I checked in and on inspection of room, I walked straight out; no way could I stay there. The room was tiny, and bathroom even tinier. Bathroom also had really bad odour. There is no way this is even a one star rating, so how they got a 3 star rating is anyones guess. Definitely not worth staying here, especially if you have travelled along way to visit Firenze.
just dont.

they don't know their asses from their elbows. i walked in on my second night in florence to find a new place to stay and the gentleman at reception showed me room 204 and told me it would be 120 euros for the following two nights. GREAT, i thought. but when i went to check in the next morning, they had no booking under my name, NO PAYMENT RECEIPT and no rooms! they say theyd never do bookings for the price i was promised. even worse - i hadnt been offered a receipt - but had signed for the booking.
ofcorse i had booked out of the hotel i was staying at and everything around was fully booked (pitti was on) and i had no where to stay with my 73 year old father. they called their "sister" hotel - airone - and said they had a room available for 150 euros for that night that they would hold for me. i told them i was going to see what i could find elsewhere and something slightly cheaper. i got a room at the hotel i was staying at previously and went back there.
i come home. everything is fine until i check my statement and i have been charged 150 euros for the sister hotel that i did not even SEE let alone stay in.
i am VERY angry. how did they manage to charge me if i hadn't signed for airone hotel?! they obviously had my booking receipt from the night before for ascot.
just don't bother.
the road its on isn't very nice.
and the lady manager is incredibly rude.

Very pleasantly surprised
Guest name: Mabel49, Rochdale
After reading the reviews I was naturally concerned, but decided to go along with the bookong and make my own judgement. I found myself very pleasantly surprised. My single room was clean and spaciuos. Furnishings basic but adequate. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. The shower draining into an opening in the floor is not uncommon in Mediterranean countries. The floor was dry ina matter of minutes. Breakfast was simple but adequate, the coffee paticularly good. The staff were welcoming and helpful.I can particularly reccomend the Trattoria immediately opposite the hotel. The food is excellent and inexpensive. I would visit this hotel again.
DO NOT Stay Here!

I glanced at a few reviews before I left on holidays but thought the terrible reports that this "hotel" had received were by snobby tourists who didn't like a bit of local culture on holidays. No Way!
The first room they tried to put us in was a joke.Literally just enough room for the bed and about a 24 inches of space around it. TV hanging off the wall over the bed and held in place with a chain. Electrical wires coming out of the wall(not sure if they were live or not, didn't hang around long enough to find out). The shower in the bathroom had no base so water just flies all over the place, just a hole in the floor! We went downstairs and said we wanted to be moved in a polite manner. After that we were treated quite badly by all members of the staff(who are some of the unfriendliest people i've ever met). Definitely not a 3 star! Horrible.
Moved to lovely 4 star on the edge of town called Villa Gabrielle D'Annuncio where the staff were lovely and the rooms were beautiful. Even had a lovely pool outside(with a diving board) and only cost about ?20 extra a night.
Were we lucky!

Having booked this hotel before reading the reviews we were a little concerned, however after arriving and being checked in by an english speaking girl we found our room to be adequate. Bearing in mind we only paid £21 each for bed and breakfast the room was better than some B&B's we have stayed at in the UK. Our room was on the first floor and looked out on to the street, during the night it was quiet but after 6.30 in the morning traffic noise was to be heard but remember you are in the middle of a busy city. The beds were comfortable, linen clean however the furniture and the decor was a little tired but for all the time we were in the room it didn't bother us.
We had no nasty smells from our bathroom and the shower which did spray over everything else in the room was powerful and there was plenty of hot water. I have stayed in Italy before and this seems to be how they sometimes set out bathrooms.
Breakfast was plentiful and we had no complaints about it although we didn't try the hard boiled eggs!
There are several good restaurants near by if you wish to eat out at night and the food is superb.
All in all for the money the Ascot served us well and it is very close to the bus and train stations. I think the secret to going to Florence is to go out of season, yes it is still busy but it can cope better with less people around.
