If I could this hotel ZERO stars, I would. I am a single female and stayed here while traveling alone last year. One of the men who manned the front desk -- Stefano -- was an extremely disturbed, psychotic person who stalked me, knocked on my door repeatedly, and when I wouldn't answer, kept calling the phone in my room. I was too scared to sleep here alone at night because there are NO interior deadbolts to the rooms -- just an old-fashioned key. I had to sneak out of the hotel with my bag and check into another hotel even though my stay was fully prepaid through Expedia. When I called the next day to complain, the other front desk people refused to do anything about either Stefano or my prepaid reservation. DO NOT STAY HERE if female and traveling alone.

Nice hotel - fairly small room but nicely furnished with chandelier and nice wardrobe etc; spacious enough for two.
Best thing about it was the placement - very easy to find when we arrived in Venice late at night, get off at Rialto and follow the map on the website. Friendly check in and 24 hr reception. Didn't try the breakfast but just looked like the usual continental one.
A minutes walk to St Marks Square or Rialto Bridge so you are right in the heart of Venice which is great considering it is one of the cheaper hotels to stay at.

As others have said, good location. An easy walk to the Rialto Bridge and Saint Marks Square. Hotel staff friendly. Our room was pleasant. Only problem was not much space to hang or put away clothes. An armoire with a half-dozen hangers and one drawer. We had to leave most of our clothes in our suitcase. Clean bathroom, but the shower is small. I'm 6'3 and had a hard time maneuvering. No tray or anything to put the soap on. We had no problem with flooding as others did.
The continental breakfast is good, but no fresh fruit or eggs. The Rialto market is a 10 minute walk away. Go there and get fruit at a good price.
I'm baffled by the previous reviewer who complained of an unfriendly staff. Same with the smell of urine. We found the halls very clean and both the day and night desk people polite and genuinely caring.
As for restaurants, the biggest surprise is that so many of them serve pizza. And if you order a glass of wine or beer they give you a small bowl of potato chips. For every round, more potato chips. Seafood is the big thing in most restaurants and, of course, pasta. Veal seems to be more popular than beef. If you're on a budget there's something to be said for the Tourist Menus. Most restaurants have a cover charge just to sit down. And the better places have a cover charge and tip included with the bill. Places who don't have a cover charge advertise this. It can be as high as 3 Euros per person.
Definitely check out The Lido. We didn't know much about it, but when we got there (a 10-minute vaporetto ride) we found it breathtaking. No canals. Cars. You get off at the dock and walk straight down the main street (or take a bus) and after 10 minutes you're at a beautiful beach and the Adriatic Sea.
If you have a good map and comfortable shoes, you can explore all of Venice on foot. It's not as big as it seems. We thought we'd be jumping on and off vaporettos and we didn't take one. The Gondola rides are tricky. The cost can be 80-120 Euros (music is extra, so is a night ride). The gondoleers are more like carnival hucksters trying to lure customers. Some are charming and funny, others have attitudes. However, at about 8 locations on the Grand Canal there are stops called tragettos where gondolas will take you across the canal for 1 Euro. It's a 2-minute ride and fun. These are there if you need to get across the canal and you're too far from a bridge

This was one of the most disgusting hotels we have ever stayed in. The lobby and hallways smelled of urine and the rooms were dark and dingy. The front desk staff ( a very heavy set man who was sweating all the time) could'nt have been more rude. We were asked to leave our bags in the lobby as the bellman took us up in the elevator, our bags were later brought to our room less one bag that had several souveniers in it. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk staff he became very hostile and rude with us. This truly was a very negative experience at the end of a very beautiful vacation. Don't waste your money on this hotel.

With the Dollar down in the dumps, we looked for a hotel under $400/night. This was challenging. This hotel fit the bill but when we approached it, we passed all the charming ones to come to Gorizia which is plain and old, but clean and not shoddy.
We soon found out the staff were very friendly and helpful in every way with restaurants, taxis, and special needs. The room was simple but it had all the basics and the bed was fine. The bathroom was OK except there was no shower curtain. Yes, I know we Americans are spoiled, but we are what we are! And there appeared to have been one, but it was cut away. So the floor got flooded every time we showered. Fortunately they supplied plenty of (worn) towels so the floor was easily mopped up.
I'm not sure I would run back to this hotel... Venice, yes!
