COCKROACHES!!

My stay was rather disappointing. I ended up in 4 different rooms: I was first given a room and went up to check in, only to find that the room was already occupied, with clothes and other personal items lying around. After some discussion with Reception (they did not believe me that the room was occupied), they checked it out and, after about 1/2 hour, assigned me to another room. Later in the evening I discovered that there were two COCKROACHES crawling around on the drapes. I went down to ask for another room and the asst. mgr told me that there was nothing she could do, as the hotel was full. After some heated discussion, they relented and assigned me another room, which ended up being directly over the kitchen. After two nights of restless sleep due to the banging (there is not much sound insulation in the floors or walls), I asked for yet another room. Finally I was in an ok room, even if the phone did not work. I was just happy to be in a room in which I could sleep. All in all, a disappointing stay.

We stayed at the hotel with 2 friends and had a great stay.
Nothing to complain about. The rooms were really big - cleaned every day. The hotel and bar staff were really helpful and friendly.
We only had breakfast at the hotel - it was continental - I personally wasn't expecting much but it was great! You could have English breakfast, all sorts of cold meats, fresh fruit, yoghurts, orange juice etc, as many different breads as you can think of, croissants, tea coffee.Great area, lots to see and do.
Would use hotel again without a doubt.
Parking in hotel car park was really reasonable.
All in all our stay was excellent.
The only thing that would be good is Tea/Coffee facilities in rooms.

Rather disappointed with the hotel and the town.

Bad points:
They had building works and it was very noisy, but presumably that's all finished now.
Swimming pool tiny, upstairs, rather inaccessible and uninviting.
No garden or anywhere to relax outside as poolside space cramped and only few chairs.
We booked half-board and found the food better-than-just-edible but very boring.
Good points:
Good position - 2mins from beach with lovely promenade.
Nice 30min walk to Cascais.
2 mins from train station with regular trains to nearby Lisbon.
Breakfast buffet quite good.
Bedrooms & bathrooms OK and clean.
Staff quite pleasant.
Other points:
5mins walk from huge casino full of fruit machines and not exactly sophisticated.
Hardly any shops or anything interesting nearby, as far as we could find.
Not really suitable for a long holiday unless you have outside activities organised as the hotel and town are very dull. Quite a few golfers were staying there, and groups of conference delegates....didn't help enhance the poor holiday ambience, but may be livelier in more popular seasons.
Vila Gale - past it's prime

We booked on the internet and were very disappointed with the room overlooking the parking lot. Room decor is very dated (1980'ish) and the carpet was dirty. In general, the hotel feels like it's past it's prime. The only thing new is the steak house, but it wasn't open on the night we were there (Monday). There were very little other options to eat in Estoril and the hotel staff recommended we go to Cascais. Breakfast was below average and coffee was dreadful. I wouldn't go back!

This hotel is clean, quiet and very relaxing. Reception staff were very efficient. Bar staff very good and cheerful. I was particularly impressed with one young lady manager who was so pleasant and friendly. Room was nice if a little small - very welcome air conditioning but no balcony. Swimming pool also small with too few sunbeds - accessed by steep stairs - not suitable for those with walking difficulties. Stayed on bed and breakfast basis, breakfast quite good. Would advise anybody eating out to be very careful - stick to hotels. We ate at outdoor restaurant in Cascais - very bad, flies all around and accasionally got sewage smell from drains. The Casino a good place to dine as it has several restaurants. One of the Casino staff guided us to a buffet type restaurant among slot machines - excellent value - eat and drink all you wish for €15. Nearby beach nice but sunbeds pricey at €10.50 per day. Easy access by train to Lisbon €3.20 return. Overall excellent holiday, would strongly recommend this hotel. I hope to return again.
