This hotel is in a great location - quiet, easy to find, very close to metro and trams and only a 20 minute walk along the river to the Charles Bridge. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed. We enquired about a kettle for the room and were presented with a tray containing a kettle, cups & saucers and a selection of tea and coffee, all free of charge.
The staff were very helpful and the hotel was extremely clean and had obviously been refurbished in recent months. The breakfast was relaxed with a good selection of yogurt, fruit salad, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, bread etc, etc.
We booked a taxi through the hotel to pick us up from the airport and take us back - this was cheaper and more direct than finding one at the airport.
We were so pleased we didn't book a hotel on Wenceslas Square (which, incidentally, isn't a square but a very long, wide, busy street). We had the pleasure of walking along the river into the centre every day, or we could have taken a tram or metro. However, the walk was well worthwhile because of the stunning views of Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.

Bad Location, Noisy Room

I checked out of this hotel early and moved to the Best Western Meteor Plaza where I had a far better experience for the same price. (See my review of the Meteor Plaza.) I checked out of the City Hotel Moran after a sleepless night next to loud traffic noise, perhaps a tram on Na Morani. The noise was so bad that I went down to the lobby at 5:00 a.m. to use the internet since I could not sleep. The location is in New Town, quite a distance from the tourist sites. There are many numbered trams and no written schedule to advise which tram to take to get to which location. The posted signs are in Czech and no help to an English speaker. We got on a tram going the wrong way and had to get off and then ask someone for help who could not orally communicate to us the number of the tram we needed but fortunately wrote down the number (tram 14) to get to Wencelas Square. Many reviewers comment the City Hotel Moran is only 20 minute walk to the main areas of Prague, but a visitor should bear in mind that once one reaches those areas, there is a lot of additional walking involved. For example, to go to Prague Castle requires crossing a bridge and then walking uphill through Lesser Town, quite a strenuous and long walk. We were very thankful we made the move to Meteor Plaza since it is only three or four blocks from the main square of Old Town. Plus, having compared the breakfast at the City Moran and the Meteor Plaza, the Meteor Plaza's breakfast was far nicer, with a much better selection and food freshly brought out. The City Moran's breakfast, in comparison, was quite meager.

Simply the best hotel we have ever had the pleasure to stay in!
Although the tram and metro stations are within close proximity, our journey to Prague would take 24 hours so we arranged the hotel's airport pick-up service (700CK) by simply sending one email to the hotel. Stepan replied immediately and our flight was met by the wonderful Peter, broadly smiling, friendly and welcoming and a superb ambassador for this hotel. We could not have hoped for a better welcome.
Despite our early arrival, we were allowed to check in immediately and were provided with free maps of the city and various brochures by the lovely, smiling Lenka. Milan, the bellman, carried our luggage to the room for us. We were fortunate to get one that overlooks the castle but more than that, it was spotlessly clean and toasty warm (it was minus 10 degrees outdoors). We had a shower AND a bathtub and the latter received much use after our return from our daily excursions around the city. Upon request, we were provided with tea/coffee making facilitiies which we could keep in our room.
The continental breakfast was lavish. The best I have seen. Hot and cold dishes, fresh fruit, granola, etc.. The restaurant was manned by smiling, friendly young people every morning and, although meals weren't served in the evening, there were always people sitting there, even into the wee hours, drinking hot toddies, cocoa, etc. and reading papers or brochures.
Free internet service is available in the lobby (which we used to check our flights) and there is no time limit. You are, of course, expected to make it available to anyone who is waiting to use it but there is nobody watching your allocated minutes. Currency exchange services are available at the front desk. The desk staff are more than helpful. Lana and Stepan both went out of their way to help us. When we inquired about train service to Vienna, they didn't just hand us a timetable. They offered to call the station and get the information for us there and then. Outstanding!
The property is located about a 15 minute stroll from the Charles Bridge and the Old Town and you can stroll to all the major attractions within 30 minutes. And what a city to stroll around!. It's quite beautiful.
As we were traveling on to Austria we asked Peter if he would drive us to the train station. Of course, he obliged. Furthermore, he offered to meet us at the station when we returned to Prague for New Year's Eve. And there he was, right on time, waiting on our train when we arrived back in Prague. He took us to another hotel that we had booked prior to leaving the US (Hotel St. George. See my review.) and then took us to the airport again for our flight back to the US. A great guy. He was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
Many thanks to all the staff. Lana, Lenka, Milan, Stepan and especially Peter, we will never forget you for the wonderful, warm hospitality with which you provided us at Christmas time.
