Spent a single night there during a road trip. Beautiful old building with nicely renovated banquet halls (e.g. for breakfast - nice buffet choice). Rooms are recently renovated and furnished with stylish designer fare. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Highly recommended.

Skip it - rundown, yucky - stay at Hotel D'Orphee or Hotel Roter Hahn instead

I stayed here Nov 2005 but was just back in Regensburg last month so was reminded at how terrible I found the Hotel Maximilliam.
This is one of the few hotels where I didn't even want to take my shoes off, the carpeting and everything seemed that grimy and rundown.
The funny thing is that the decore in my room was the same as in the brochure which I thought looked kindof cute but in real life it is so run down it's totally depressing. The bathroom hasn't been updated since the 60s. And you can't get the room dark at night because they have these bright lights focused on the outside of the hotel and inadequete curtains to block them. I will say that the hotel looked very cute from the outside, I was pretty excited to stay there until I got into the inside.
The location is NOT great (it seems people like it for proximity to train station which may be true, I don't know) but other than that it's on the far edge of the old town in a more modern much less charming area. The old area of Regensburg is so big and charming, why stay in a more modern area like where the Hotel maximillian is when you can stay in a cute area??
Last month we stayed at the Hotel Roter Hahn - this is right in the center of the old area of charming narrow streets so the location is far superior and totally charming. I only saw 2 rooms, both very clean, furniture new and nice, the bathrooms fine and help super friendly. It is not luxury, it is just nice and a good value. They also have parking (you're allowed to drive into the area if you are staying in one of the hotels, otherwise it's for pedestrian use only).
I also saw another hotel 1 block away called Hotel D'Ophee also on a beautiful charming street and this hotel really looked cute and the rooms (I saw the photos) looked so absolutely charming. I would stay here next time. My husband stayed here last year and liked it a lot but had forgotten the name which is how we ended up at the Roter Hahn.

My wife and I were supposed to stay 2 nights in Regensburg at the Park Hotel Maximillian. She had an unfortunate accident on the second day, needed hospitalization, and I ended up staying 7 nights while she recuperated. This grand hotel is under rennovation, however, I was very happy with my room and stay. Our room was on the second floor and just recently rennovated. Very modern bathroom. Good sized bright corner room with big windows. The breakfast buffet was Super !!!! Eggs, sausage, bacon, crepes, cold cuts, rolls......plenty to eat. Served in a beautiful room. The staff was very sympathetic to my problem and asked every day how my wife was doing. My stay was extednded and they were as helpful as possible to me.
The hotel should be absolutely beautiful when rennovations are complete. Very close to the train station.

La mia casa a Regensburg
Guest name: Anonymous
