The Amarante was an adequate hotel that was clearly past its prime. We booked 2 rooms, one triple ( description stated 3 singles with shower excluding breakfast) and a double ( which stated 2 singles with shower including breakfast) After booking, I e-mailed the hotel directly to inquire about directions and breakfast prices. They informed me that alothough our rooms would not be connecting, they would be very close. Also that the triple room was a double + a twin, not 3 seperate beds and the double was jsut a double,not 2 twins. They also said that breakfast was included in the triple but not the double. when we got there, they wanted to give us rooms on seperate floors but finally gave in to room next door. The double room was tiny, the trip le room was ample in size but the entire hotle was worn and tattered but very very clean. Old furniture, tattered carpets. Breakfast was hardly appealing to any of us at 11 euro per person ( we have 3 kids who each took 2 bites) . It was so hot in Vienna and the A/C was a blessing but there was no air in the restaurant for breakfast and 90 degree days coupled with unbearable cigarette smoke was horrible. the staff is very kind and helpful, not at all what you would think of as an elegant hotel but ok if you want clean, cool place, and it is relatively cheap, this is the place for you.metro right outside your door. kind of in a run down part of town but I felt safe. You get what you pay for in an expensive city.
