I booked a single room for one night's stay before my friends and I drove down to Algecira for the ferry to Morocco. My room was clean, comfortable, quiet, with all the modern amenities, including a safe. The hotel staff was extremely warm, helpful, courteous -- everyone from the front desk to the espresso maker in the cafe/bar just outside of the dining room. I'm not saying it's the Four Seasons, but for what it is, it was a really good value. It's also very conveniently located near the Plaza Santo Domingo metro stop, so I was able to take the metro right from inside the Madrid airport to the hotel. It is also walking distance to the Prado.
After traveling in France and staying in some pretty shabby (and dirty) but so-called 'quaint' hotels, I really appreciated the cleanliness and comfort of this hotel; and the genuine helpfulness of the staff. I don't know what other people paid for their rooms, but I got a pretty good deal on mine, and even if I had paid up to 150 -180 USD per night, I think it would still be a good value, considering that it was summertime in Europe during peak vacation period.

Booked this through a friend and we got a twin room. We don't know each other particularly well. The beds were less than a foot apart. The room was ensuite and had the tv etc, but the wifi was not included in the (really quite large) price and neither was breakfast. The staff were friendly though, and there was a nice touch of leaving sweets on our pillows. The tooth fairy may not approve however.

I don't understand where the four stars were earned, but certainly not in soundproofing. We had to move twice in two days because of the noise from the street (partying in front of the hotel until 07.00 am, and the noise in the hotel itself (partying on the 6th floor that made the keys on the table in our 4th floor room rattle).
Rooms are tiny and if it ever burns, hard to escape from. On the bad side of a touristy though central part of the heart of Madrid.

I only gave it one star because non was not an option. Rooms are like shoeboxes and I dont just mean the size, I think the walls are cardboard may as well be open plan! 4* hotel hmmmmmmm. I have stayed in better hostels. staff are miserable no tea and coffee facilities in the room (probably could not fit the kettle in). No need for an alarm call as people start wandering in and out of your room from about 9 o'clock onwards. window looks in to a shaft. I could go on..............

We reserved three rooms, a twin and two doubles for (unfortunately) the night of the Madrid - Barcelona football game. When we attempted check in, for close to an hour, the desk staff was challenged by only having set aside one twin room. Subsequently, they found a second twin at the Senator about two blocks away. The following morning when it came time to check out of the Senator, our party was asked to pay a 300 euro rate when the prepaid rate was about 1/3 that amount at the Santo Domingo. We got the desk staffs to communicate to resolve the issue in our favor.
The lobby is attractive as the pictures show. I found it a bit strange that one of the elevators was about 6 steps up from the other two. I guess adding them late in the hotel's life may have been a challenge.
The twin rooms are tiny as we expected. We had to separate the bed halves to meet our social objectives. As our phones registered with Vodafone ES or Telefonica, the speakers in the ceiling proclaimed the transaction with a strange noise. A bit irritating after bed time.
The hotel location is pretty nice, just a few blocks from the historical city square where we met up with local friends prior to going to a great restaurant for delicious lamb.
When I return to Madrid, I will continue shopping for hotels by staying at another one.
