The location of this hotel is great - near the train station and water busses. Request a room overlooking the grand canal. Breakfast was great and staff very helpful. Rooms are "ok" - linens etc just adequate - but clean.

Personally, my experience with the Hotel Continental was pleasant overall. I stayed there while on a 12-day trek around Italy with Insight Tours. We stayed in The Hotel Continental for one night, and I enjoyed it. I thought it was one of the nicest hotels I had stayed in so far in Italy. The room was large, the beds, however slightly hard, I was not complaing about. People forget that they are visiting Europe. Their showers are different, their beds are hard because that's how they prefer them, they don't have all the accomodations and excess perks that and American hotel would have. When you stay at an Italian hotel, you should expect to do things as the Romans do, or in this case, the Venetians. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of Italian hotels. If I wanted oversized, squishy beds, showers with curtains, and complimentary tea and coffee makers in my room, I would have stayed in an American hotel on the mainland. I don't think the Continental needs an 'modernizing'. It's classic and elegant. I found it larger than many of the other Italian Hotels' rooms, cleaner, the staff friendlier, and the location couldn't be rivaled. It was beautiful, with a unique layout. I've never had more fun finding my room! I highly recommend that if you're going to Venice to truly experience all aspects of it. If you prefer not to experience what it is to stay in a traditional, Italian 3-star hotel in the city of Venice, then I would recommend the hotels on the mainland. As far as I'm concerned, I plan on making a return trip to Venice, and I'll be booking my stay with Continental.

I stayed at the Continental Hotel Venice while on an Insight Italian Escapade Tour. I was travelling alone. Room was size of my walk in closet with hard bed, bad linens, broken safe and step up to bathroom. No hot water or air conditioning for the two days and long nights I was there. Hotel felt dirty. Buffet breakfast was ok, dinner was ok. Staff were less than friendly and not helpful at all. I would not recommend to an enemy. Loved Venice but could not wait to leave the hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised by the elegant lobby and professional staff that welcomed me promptly and efficiently. I was led to a small room that was clean and sufficient for my one night stay. The bed was firm and comfortable. One thing that should be changed is the shower which due to the low basin, spilled water all over the bathroom floor.
At night, the neighborhood is a bit noisy but closing the windows and having earplugs helped greatly. i would definetly stay there again when in Venice. The complimentary satisfying breakfast had ample to choose from; fruits, 3 types of croissants, several types of bread for toast, variety of jams, two types of cereal, hardboiled eggs, scrambled eggs. The hotel is in a convenient location and the neighborhood has many stores, restaurants, and cafes open till late. Although not very close to St. Marks Square, the vaporettos are a great fun cheap way to see the beautiful city. Sometimes the best part of traveling is getting there :)
FYI- The train station is just a minute walk away from the hotel and by vaporetto, the bus station is one stop (P. de la Roma) away. Bus number 5 takes you to the Marco Polo Airport. The hotel is at the Ferrovia vaporetto stop. Have fun in Venice!
