I booked Casa Verardo online at HotelClub, but when I arrived they did not have a room for me, so I had to look for another one. I found Royal San Marco at night, checked in at 10pm. They gave me a double for single use for 300 euros a night. To get in I had to cross St.Mark?s Square, which was full of water. To cross it, I had to take off shoes, the water was as high as 15sm and it was around 10-15 degrees Centigrade. Very romantic beginning.
The hotel looks nice, 4-star, but the rooms are tiny. I saw a single for 280 euros per night, and a bigger double for 450 euros per night. Ridiculous prices for this cells.
My room had a tiny bathroom without a bathtub, the shower directly on the same floor, no shower tub. A tiny wardrobe.
Very simple breakfast included.
In the morning I woke up because of the noise, I thought it was raining, the windows were open. jaja, it was a shower in the next room.
They also say the trip to Murano is included - it?s a scum. The trip is paid by the factory held by Signoretti family and includes only a show in the factory of one tired guy who is blowing stupid horses in front of the public, and a quite big showroom with fine pieces of glass. The price of this glass includes the water taxi, the guide in Venice, the guide in Murano, a salesperson speaking several languages, and a commission to the hotel.
Also if you ask about a restaurant, they would always recommend you one that pays them a commission, which does not mean it?s a bad restaurant, but pricey.
But in general, for Venice it seems to be a decent hotel, although I would not give a 4-star rating to it. It is clearly a good level 3-star hotel.

Room 105 was the tiniest room I have ever stayed in. Even the bathroom was meant for mini-me. In addition, it looked over a noisy street and bar and we were unable to fall asleep until the late hours of the night being kept up by the incessant noise.
The shower was downright dangerous with temperatures varying from warm to scalding hot. The staff did nothing to fix the problem as the hotel was allegedly entirely booked.
Breakfast was sub-par.
The location was quite good and the staff at the front desk overall helpful however the night person chased my friend to the other side of the island thinking that she skipped out on her bill.
We firmly believe this was racial profiling which the hotel denies. Regardless this staff person and my friend spoke before she left the hotel and he had an opportunity to ask her status with the room. Instead he waited and trailed her to the vaporetto stop on the other side of the island to ask her room number and to question her regarding the possibility of skipping out on the room tab. I was still in the room catching a later flight.
At a minimum this behavior was unprofessional at best.
All in all I'd never stay at this hotel again or in Venice for that matter as it is one big tourist trap.

Basic Venitian style hotel, rooms are small and a little "gaudy" but the lobby it very nice, staff was very helpful and the location, I can't say enough about the location! I think I may have been able to hit San Marco with a rock.
Seriously I counted and it was less than 50 steps into the square.
Our room was in the top "attic" levels. Which was annoying, you take the elevator 4 levels then get off and walk two more. Not to convenient with luggage or after a long day of sightseeing.
But over all the hotel was a GREAT value, $100 USD a night less than other things in the area. I would recomend it highly (at a good price) and I will stay again on my next trip.

A superbly well positioned hotel, with very helpful and welcoming staff, just ignore the fact that the rooms are a liitle small. That is of no importance in a city like Venice! Only 2 minutes walk from the main square, this hotel just made our stay.

just returned from a 2 night stay at the royal san marco. Initially trip booked throgh tui( Thomson). on arrival we entered the san marco hotel, opp the royal san marco, where the staff tried to fob us off with a broom cupboard room, with bathroom down the corridor!!. After the sudden realisation that i was now claustrophobic, we asked for another room, to which we were told they didn't have any. got the feeling its a kinda joke to see if anyone accepts the room, by the amountof grinning goin on between staff. They then told us as they are a group of six hotels, there were vacancies across the street at the ROYALsan marco.
This was a much nicer room with a double bed and single bed and nice bathroom. Not much choice for breakfast, but reckon thats pretty normal for venice, as i read other reviews from travellers. Directions to hotel were spot on. Stand in the MiIDDLE of st marks square facing basilica. on left is a restaurant called Quadri. walk down the pathway at the side, and you'll see the dreadful san marco on the left or the nice Royal san marco on the right!!
