I recently was in the New Haven area on business and heard that this property had been completely remodeled. I was very pleasantly suprised with how new and nicely furnished the rooms and common areas are now. Rooms are like mini-appartments with new furnishings a flat screen T.V. and great beds. With all the extra space and extras (full hot breakfast each morning) this is a great value and really nicely done hotel. It is a little outside the downtown area, but worth the short drive for a nicer, bigger room than the hotels downtown.

The Premier Hotel and Suites looks like a small community of garden apartments that is strangely located in a mixed industrial and office zoned area right off of US 95 outside of New Haven. The suites themselves are pleasant with a small, equipped kitchen, sitting area, free internet and flat screen TV. The beds are comfortable too. Because of the layout of the apartments there is very little natural light coming in through the windows, which renders the place slightly gloomy. The sidewalks are badly broken up, and in need of repaving. Service was friendly, but overmatched. I was there on a busy weekend when the place was full and there was generally one person at the reception desk checking people in, while simultaneously manning the phone. The rates include breakfast, which is a step up from a pure continental breakfast, but the dining area is not large enough to accommodate every one when the place is full. As for the location, it's just about the strangest setting I've ever encountered for a hotel. You feel like you're going to end up on a loading dock as you drive in off the highway. For those without cars, the hotel advertises a shuttle service into town, and it's fine when it's running, but it closes at 9:00 pm. This means that it isn't available to bring you back from dinner in town. The local cab company was doing a brisk business while I was there. This hotel makes the most sense for someone with a car who'll be spending enough time in the area to justify a small apartment-like hotel. If you're in New Haven for a day or two, particularly if you're flying in for a Yale visit, there are plenty of alternatives right in town that would make a better bet (Omni, Courtyard by Marriott).
Better but problems with housekeeping

I travel to New Haven frequently to visit friends (about once every two months). I stayed at Premiere several times about a year ago but hadn't returned because of the housekeeping staff. Back then, the rooms were still old but some were starting to get renovated. The last time I stayed, housekeeping knocked on my door at 9:00 am and then called or knocked every 45 minutes until we left at check-out time (I had the "do not distrub" sign out). I was upset and complained to the front desk staff but they didn't seem to know anything about it.
I was hoping this time would be better. The hotel seems to be doing renovation still but I know my room was remodeled. There was a new flat-screen television and nice bedding and carpets. Everything seemed great until 9:00 am in the morning when housekeeping knocked on my door even though I had the "do not distrub" sign on the door. I was leaving early this time so they couldn't knock over and over, but this type of thing is simply unexceptable. I would expect this at very cheap motels, but definitely not at a 3 star establishment. Premiere really needs to do something about this. I will not stay here again unless I know this will not happen again.

My extended family booked three rooms at Premiere (two executive suites and a one-bedroom) and we all had a great experience. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare food for our small daughter. The included hot breakfast buffet was fine. The assistant manager of the hotel (who also served breakfast and helped with our check-out) was very accommodating and friendly, though we did not have a great experience at the front desk. (When we called to make reservations the woman who answered the phone was a little rude and the woman who checked us out was not fully trained.) Those were our only complaints, however. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

I recently stayed at the Premiere Hotel and Suites when visiting some of the New Haven Colleges with my daughter. We were a little nervous staying at Hotel we had not heard of before but it was convenient to both the colleges and the highway. We also wanted to stop at IKEA while in the area, which was close by. Well, we were very happy with our choice. The Hotel could not have worked out better. We were greeted by Paula at the front desk. Very friendly and she gave us great directions to where we needed to go the next morning. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable with 9 pillows, how can you go wrong. The complimentary hot breakfast in the morning was just what we needed since we had an early appointment. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the area.
