I stayed here with my mother for two nights as part of a tour. The room was adequate, although the water provided (in a small water "cooler") was distressingly warm and funny tasting. Also, when we departed, we had the hotel call us a taxi--it was extremely dirty and had no meter, and we ended up paying about 50% more for the ride to the airport than we should have.
But the worst experience we had at this hotel occurred at the bar on the ground floor. It was the last night of our week-and-a-half long tour, so all of the tour group members gathered in the bar for a drink and to say good-bye. Three of us ordered a Baileys, and after a quick taste we realized that all was not right with our glasses of Irish cream (it tasted very, very bad). We asked for the bottle, and upon inspection discovered that it was a year and a half past its use-by date. When we confronted the bar staff about the situation, not only did they not apologize or offer to get us another drink, when the bill came they actually tried to charge us for the three Baileys.
I've had great experiences at a number of other hotels in China, so I feel that this was an exception rather than the norm. With many other good options out there, my advice would be to go elsewhere.

My husband & I stayed 3 nights at this hotel as an extension from our
tour. We requested for room facing the back as the hotel faces the main road.We were given a room on the highest flr (15th flr) & were pleasantly surprised that the room was spacious & large bathroom. For once, 2 of us can be in the bath at the same time as compared to the other hotels we stayed in Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou & Wuxi. Either 1 of us have to move aside or step out of the bath!
Hotel is located 3km north of Bund.We tried walking to the Bund the 1st day, which I would not recommend if not used to the busy, busy traffic flow of people & cars, etc. Can be a task crossing the streets. Take a taxi, only RMB13-RMB18 to Bund, Nanjing Rd.
Front desk staff speaks English & were helpful. We had an early morning flight & the nite before checking out, requested that they hail a taxi for us. The bellboy was at our door within 5 mins from our call & taxi was already waiting outside the hotel for us.
Would not recommend the American buffet breakfast at RMB44/pax. Sausage were tough & not many choices, there were more chinese food.
Generally, the beds are firm all over China. I mean really firm. This is actually good for the back!

I stayed at the hotel for 10 nights in September, 2007. I had a pleasant stay. The hotel's front desk staff was always willing to help and spoke good English. The housekeeping staff always kept my room nice and tidy and were friendly and cordial people.
The restaurants in the hotel are only fair though--much better to seek good food where the natives eat! And there are plenty of great places to eat in Shanghai for very little money. :-)
There is a free Internet connection (DSL) in the room and a "business center" with one old computer on the ground floor where the usage charge is one Yuan per minute.
