We stayed at the Arcobaleno for 2 nights and quite enjoyed our stay away from the tourist area of Siena -- though at the same time I would have liked to have been closer to the action. The staff there is WONDERFUL, all of them friendly and helpful. Our room was pleasant, the only downside is the shower is a pain, and water got everywhere. But we loved sitting at the table in front of the hotel and eating breakfast and having dinner picnics. It was great. The trattoria down the road a block or two was quite good. I would stay at this hotel again, esp. since if you take the bus it's quite easy to get to and from town.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Arcobaleno. Very cozy and warm feel to the hotel. Rooms have been recently updated and are modern looking. Excellent continental breakfast and friendly staff. Distance from city centre is the only drawback. It's a 20-25 minute walk to the city centre. The first 5 minutres of the walk are not enjoyable as you are on a secondary route. Location come is handy is you have a car with you as parking is free. The bus stop is a 3 minute walk and will take you to the city centre for 1 Euro. Would highly recommend this hotel. Great value for your money.

The Arcobaleno is a nice place to stay, but there are some things to watch out for.
The most important of these is the distance from the hotel to the city wall, the porta and the old city. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the nearest entry through the wall. Then it's another 10 minutes or so to get to the campo or about 15 minutes to the duomo. It's a pleasant enough walk in the morning on your way to town, but late at night when you're tired, it's just a bit too far.
I don't really understand the reference to the "hill" in a number of reviews. Perhaps people are referring to the very slight upgrade as you walk through town on your way back to the hotel. In any case that didn't bother us.
The room was very clean, but quite small as was the bathroom. The air conditioning is good.
Breakfast was very basic, although the outside area is pleasant.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
