loved the hotel, really nice and clean room. The free breakfast at the roof terrace was the perfect to start the day!

We arrived the day before the Corpus Domini and were delighted with the room. We had the corner room which overlooked both the Basilica and the road that led down the side of the hotel, which is where the procession came from. A great view of the whole procession and ceremony (and the preparation for the big event).
The room was comfortable and our chamber maid was lovely and always left the room perfect and clean. The only downfall we had was the rooftop restaurant, and this was only because the same menu was on offer every night for the whole 10 days we stayed and there were only a few choices on the menu altogether. The staff were always polite to us and the position of the hotel was good as it was close to all the main sites we wanted to visit. Would recommend to friends and would go back again (hopefully).

We (two couples) arrived around midday, having flown into Rome with Ryan Air and transferred using Terravision transport to Termini station (around a ten minute walk), all of which worked well. It was disappointing, therefore, when we arrived at the hotel, to be told that owing to their mistake they had no room for us. Allegedly, their booking agent had booked us in for three days from the 17th (the day of our departure) rather than the 14th. They were full, they said. However, they would arrange for us to stay in a four star hotel around the corner, at their expense. This arranged, the porter took us and our baggage to the alternative hotel. This alternative had pleasant rooms but virtually no other facilities. The breakfast room was windowless and there was a small lounge too. However, there was no bar and the roof terrace was closed. We re-grouped at a local bar to decide on our itinery for the day and whilst sitting there we saw the same porter take at least two other groups of people to the 'overflow' hotel! It seems someone had made a lot of mistakes......or had they? When we managed to get booked in the following day (no apology however!), we noted that there was a large tour group from the U.S. booked in. I suspect that their booking was received after ours and seemed a more attractive proposition, so we were bumped! For us, this was a really bad beginning to our holiday. We chose this hotel because of the location, the rooftop bar, the rooms and the good reviews. We didn't want to stay somewhere else. Anyway, when we did move in to the right hotel, the service was fine, the breakfast pleasant although not particularly varied in content and roof bar splendid early evening. Watch out for the price of cocktails though..... Nine euros each! We found Rome to be very pricey compared to other European cities, not helped by the current exchange rate of ? against Euro. Our great bargain was the Roma Card, 20 Euros for unlimited public transport for three days plus free entrance to two museums/sites. Dinner nearby at the Two Columns restaurant was nice, reasonable, and not too far to stagger after a hard day's sightseeing. Whilst we enjoyed the stay at the Mecenate, we felt not a little put out by our initial treatment.

The hotel rooms were clean and the bathrooms were large and very nice. The down side to this hotel was the attitude of the staff and the roof top restaurant.
We decided to save time and trouble and arranged a driver from the hotel to pick us up at the airport. The driver was one hour late and when he saw our bags, made a face and let out a groan. He had a beat up car and was rude. Take a taxi instead. I just expected more for the price of this hotel and was a bit shocked at the attitude of the driver. Also, if you stay at this hotel do not eat at the restaurant. Have a drink because the view is wonderful but do not eat. It is expensive and the food was horrible as was the service. Our waiter was very rude and acted like he hated being there. When I told the staff of our experience at the restaurant all three of them just stared at me with a blank face. I heard an other guest complain as well about the food saying it was the worst meal he has ever had.
The locatiion is pretty good. We walked to to the attractions in Rome and the train station is very near.
I would not stay here again based on the attitude of the staff. This was a dream trip for us and part of the experiece is the hotel and staff. We loved Rome and the excuse of the "Big City" attitude for an excuse to tolerate rudness is not acceptable to me. For that reason I would not stay here again or recommend it to a friend.

We had booked a room for four nights through Priceline. When we arrived, we were told that they didn't have a big enough room because we had a baby and they would arrange for us to stay at a hotel down the block for one night. We told them that we didn't need a bigger room because the baby slept in the same bed as us and didn't use a cot. Still they insisted they couldn't give us the room because it was too small and Italian law required that they give us a bigger room since there were three people. I don't know if this is really Italian law or they had just overbooked the hotel. In any event we had to schlep down the block to stay at another hotel for one night, which was a hassle even though a bellman helped us because we had a lot of luggage and a baby in tow. Another reason I suspect the hotel routinely overbooks is that while we were dining at the cafe next door one day, we saw the bellman carrying away the luggage of two other travelers who seemed to be going to the same hotel we were put in for one night. Ironically enough, when we finally checked in the next day, the room was very small. The bed took up 90% of the space. I can't imagine there being a smaller room for two people so I'm still suspicious about their reasons for putting us in another hotel for the first night. On the positive side, the room was quiet and dark enough for us to sleep during the day. The staff were not overly helpful and seemed irritated when we asked them questions. The location is convenient though, with ATMs, internet shops, multiple restaurants, and gelaterias within easy walking distance. You can walk to the Colosseum in 20-25 minutes. The train station is only three blocks away and you can do lots of informal shopping from various sidewalk vendors nearby.
