Just had a lovely few days in Gran Canaria at these wonderful apartments. I really can't fault the place, the service was good, the staff were very friendly and the location was great (very quiet and on a very quiet road). The standard of our suite was exceptionally good and we had a fantastic balcony overlooking the pool and the golf course. The pool bar was particularly good and the food served there was outstanding for the price. The only small problem we encountered was a shortage of hot water very late in the evening. I will definately go to these apartments again.
Not a 4 star and over priced

We read the most recent review before travelling and thought it seemed at odds with previous reviews. However having just returned from a week at the Vital Suites we would have to agree with their general points. The only 4 star attraction at this facility is the Wellness Centre/Spa. The rooms whilst spacious have cheap fixtures and fixings that are no better than other apartment blocks in the resort, which do not charge 203 Euros a night.
The location and setting of the development is good but on the downside the food quality is appalling. Thankfully we only had breakfast and I did feel sorry for people who had booked half board. Having stayed at the Riu Palace the previous week for the same price (and with evening meal included) we feel able to compare the food and general services objectively. To be honest there is no comparison and the Vital Suites should set its tarriff at a more realstic rate so that people are not fooled into thinking that they are booking to stay at a 4 star hotel. If Dunas spent more on the rooms and improved the food quality then perhaps the development would live up to the standards of the excellent setting and Wellness Centre.

We have just returned from the Dunas Vital Suite Hotel in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria where we stayed for one month.
The hotel is situated in a rather odd place being in the middle of a residential area about a 15 minute walk to the beach via the streets which are not that pleasant. I would add that when you reach the beach there is then another 15 to 20 minute difficult walk across the Maspalomas dunes before you get to the sea.
I never made it down to the sea.
Firstly the good points
There were plenty of very comfortable loungers around the pool with always plenty to spare. The covers however were grubby.
The pool was clean but the surrounding terrace was not always clean.
It is a very quiet hotel.
The suites were spacious but were cheaply furnished and the bedrooms were a bit of a dark hole. We had a ground floor suite facing the pool on the sunny side. We were first given a room on the other side which never got the sun and refused to take that one. The TV reception for BBC world and Sky news was bad and they were the only two English channels.
Most of the staff on the reception desk were very helpful.
The spa was very good and I had some good massages there at extra cost.
Now the complaints.
The food at the hotel. It was never hot only lukewarm. Breakfast was buffet style but the scrambled and fried eggs were always nearly cold. The bacon was awful as were the sausages and the rest of the hot food. For two weeks the toaster was not operating properly but was fixed after we complained twice eventually going to the manager of the hotel. There were no hot plates for the cooked food. The bread was good as was the cold buffet but that was more for the German and Scandanavian visitors. They ran out of butter and tea bags on some mornings which was just bad management. I ordered an omlette every day which was usually a bit hotter but it took them nearly a week to get it cooked properly. The waiters on the whole were very pleasant. Sergio was the best waiter. They did not clear the tables very quickly but I would say that they were understaffed. Roberto the restaurant manager was very charming but was not to be seen in the restaurant at all times when food was served and so did not sort out the problems as they constantly arose.
Dinner was a strange affair. Four courses costing ?19 for b and b guests plus the cost of any drinks. Again the food was never hot. Buffet salad to start which was okay. Then there was soup or a pasta type dish (not nice) and then finally a choice of one meat or fish. Only one type of pudding or ice cream to finish. There was no other choice in the hotel which seemed rather odd. They claimed to have room service but whenever we tried it did not seem possible to get it. The only bar was outside by the pool which was not very appealing in the winter as it is quite chilly in the evenings. There was nowhere pleasant to sit inside the hotel in the evening to have a drink . There was nothing to do in the evening there. There are plenty of good restaurants locally.
The pool bar is situated overlooking the golf course and you can see the Maspolomas dunes in the distance. This area is very attractive however the food is another matter. We had lunch there several times thinking that we may have been unlucky with our choices but unfortunately we did not have anything resembling a decent meal. The menu looked okay but the actual meals were not good. We gave up eating lunch at the hotel.
The rooms were not that clean and the sheets had holes in them. Beds were changed every other day. The robes provided had holes in them and each time we changed them they were still old and worn. They need replacing. The towels which are changed each day are thin and rough.
The grass outside our suite was finally cut when the grass was about nine inches long!
The only good thing about the hotel is that it is small and there is no rush for pool loungers in the morning. It is very relaxed but the staff need to get their act together and have some training by the Riu hotel chain. The manageress of the hotel is charming but does not seem to do any managing.
I would not stay at a Dunas hotel again.

We are two men from Madrid who just spent the December bank holiday (December 6-10, 2007) at the Dunas Vital Suites. We reserved the largest suite (corner suite with private garden on both sides of the building overlooking the golf course, dunes and ocean) at 233 euros per night including half board.
If you are a typical bungalow customer, then you will really like this "hotel" because it has far higher standards than the bungalow complexes located within Playa del Ingl?s and Maspalomas. If you are a hotel/resort customer, you will absolutely hate the hotel, since just to the right of the lighthouse in the newer, more upscale Meloneras area, you can stay at some wonderful brand new hotels modeled after the mega resorts of Bali, Indonesia for the same price or less.
The room was just okay. It reminded us of the bungalow colonies, not a hotel room. We had no hot water for the entire stay. At first hotel staff tried to denied the problem. However, when all the other guests started to complain, they finally called in a service company on our last day.
We were inside the room in the morning while the maids were cleaning. We noticed that they did not change the bed linens. When we questioned this, they said they had orders not to change the sheets during the entire stay. As this was entirely unacceptable for a "four-star" "hotel" charging 233 euros per night, we demanded that our linens be changed. The beds themselves appear to be the original beds from when the hotel was new and not the modern, comfortable beds found in hotels in the 21st century.
Breakfast was okay. However, if you arrive shortly before the 10:30 a.m. closing time, there is an extremely rude maitre'd who scolds and intimidates you that the breakfast is closing. Instead of waiting two minutes (and it was not even 10:30 a.m. yet) to let us fill our plates, they took the buffet away right in front of our eyes.
Lunch at the swimming pool (grill style) was very tasty (this was not included in half board and was therefore paid separately), although service was very slow even though it was not crowded. The hotel obviously skimps on staffing, as the same three waiters are inside for breakfast, then move to the pool for lunch, and then are inside the restaurant again for dinner. Dinner (half-board program) in the hotel restaurant was horrendous. Frozen fish balls, pasta with no taste, "Saltimbocca", Greased, breaded pork balls, etc., a dessert "buffet" that consisted of nothing more than rotten cake and two or three flavors of ice cream that had remained there the entire stay and were never refreshed. There were never more than two or three customers having dinner in the restaurant, although the hotel was almost full to capacity.
The pool area was very nice with a lovely cliff-type view over the golf course, dunes and ocean. The pool itself was large but was NOT heated.
The spa and wellness center in the basement of the hotel was a real treat. It was free of charge to guests (except for treatments) and you wouldn't expect to find this type of facility in this type of hotel. The only feasible reason for the hotel being awarded four stars would appear to be the spa and wellness center.
The grounds and facilities in general have the look of the 70's. Even the music they pump through the hotel is from that era (it appears that they purchased a music system when the hotel was new and haven't changed it since).
When we checked out there was no porter to handle our bags. While we wouldn't expect one in a bungalow colony, a four-star hotel should not think of making its guests lug their luggage around the entire facility by themselves.
The hotel was a three block walk to and from the Yumbo Center, which was convenient. However, even the standard bungalow colonies provide you with hot water and change your linens and our experience at a purported four-star hotel was totally unacceptable.
We will definitely be returning to Gran Canaria, but never again to the Dunas Vital Suites.

we stayed in a junior suite in this hotel for a week, the hotel is in a quiet location overlooking the golf course, the hotel is probably about 8-10 years old and has very high standards, although its a smaller hotel it has a great range of facilities including a stunning spa, well equipped gym, a large pool and sunbathing area
the hotel is maintained to a very high standard and had a real feel of luxury, will definitly stay here next time in gran canaria
