w e have recently returned from the Dunas Don Gregory and I must say that the hotel Location was excellant, The hotel was right on the beach but thats is the most positive thing that I can say.
I found all the staff apart from two young girls who worked in the pool bar to be rude and arragont, they have no time for the english and you are made to feel that when you ask for something they are doing you a favour.
The restaraunt staff are the worst I have ever met I really couldnt belive the way they treated people. I have read other peoples review and was supprised that not many other people felt the same. I am not one to complain and tend to except things, which we did here as I couldnt be bothered to complain also I dont think anything would have been done about it. The food was always luke warm and not much variety, simalar food the next day and the next.
At the pool bar at lunch times all there was where toasted sandwiches, burger, or sausages, plus chips I didnt think that was much to choose from
. All the alcholic drinks were locally produced, and didnt taste of anything (you would never get merry on there drink) didnt matter how much you has to drink.
The lady who worked in the reception never smilled, and on our last morning our safe didnt work ( we had complained about it three other time) its was 07.45 and we needed to open the safe to get out documents out but found that again the safe was not working we went down to inform them and to get somebody to open it up for us as we where being picked up at 08.30 to go to the airport, they said that somebody would come and open it for us, 15 mins later no one had come. We wanted breakfast before we left, but couldnt leave the room untill the safe had been opened, again we spoke to them, and they informed us that some one again was on there way. 08.15 nobody had still come, again I went back and told them that we needed the safe opened, the women receptionist phoned and spoke to somebody, who said that they would be with us in 10 mins. I spoke to the women on reception and said that we had missed out on breakfast and to compensate we should not have to pay the 14 euros for the hire orf the safe. all she could do was wave at us and say we had 15 min and stil had time. We didnt!!. The man eventually arrived at 08.25 we managed to get our things together and by then the transport had arrived to pick us up. They wouldnt let us off the bill for the safe, And she didnt even appologise!! What would of happened if we had a early morning flight, because the office where they came from to fix the safe was in Playa del Inglis and didnt open untill 0800.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! AND NEVER AGAIN.

This is long review - of the one day and night spent here (we should of been here for a week). I am a fair person and give credit where it is due, this hotel receives very little.
The hotel is in a wonderful location and is a short transfer from the airport.....that is where most of the positives end. I want to stress the type of people my partner and I are, to ensure that if you are similar then you may feel the same way as us - we're in our mid 30's and we have a 4 year old daughter. We have always gone all-inclusive since we had our daughter and have travelled in Europe and Africa several times since she was born. We choose to go to places that are not what we class as 'bacon & eggs' ie: full of English people that want just want beer, beer, beer and a 'full English' for breakfast. Reading the previous reviews on this web-site I thought that this was suitable - how wrong was I. There might be nice cafe's and resturants nearby, but if you have paid all-inc you expect to eat there several times during your stay - with poor entertainment, staff and food you will probably find yourself spending a lot of money to get away from the hotel.
Firstly, as soon as we arrived we were informed because we are English we could only have dinner after 8pm (German & Dutch 6pm-8pm, English & Spanish 8pm-10pm). As the dining area - which has a wonderful view of the beach, can not accommodate everyone if the hotel is more than half booked. My partner thought they were joking - however when we did go for dinner there is a person waiting at the door to take your details and let you know if it is okay for you to eat! We had walked past him as we didn't realise and within 10 minutes of us sitting down he was at our table, demanding to know why we had entered the dining area without his say-so. Whilst having dinner the waiter hovered - not because he was attentive, as he consistently seemed put out - the tables have sparkling water on them when you sit down, my daughter and I prefer still, I asked three times before he brought us still water. Whilst eating I paused for a moment to take in the view and his hand flew across the table to take my plate and I had to take it from him before he ran off with it. As for the food, it was what you usually get on an all-inc holiday, but with not as much choice.
After dinner we went outside to sit by the pool as the 'entertainment' by the in-house entertainer for the night was set-up. This consisted of a man in his late 60's, singing and playing an electric organ. Most of this was in German - apart from him playing one song for our daughter - the 'birdie song' as it was the beginning of the night and she was the only one on the dance floor. However once he started playing German songs again several light-footed elderly couples got up to waltz, all the music from that point on was for the elder generation. Luckily our daughter found a friend, a little girl of a similar age - and the only other child we saw, with her parents. They played together for about 10mins and we decided to call it a night - by now it was about 9:30pm. We didn't rate the entertainment in the evening and the next day we found out that the only 'entertainment' for children, provided by the hotel is 6 crayons......not exactly what we had in mind - I had brought more than that for her to play with on the airplane.
Now onto our room - we paid for a sea-view......we got the first floor, therefore although we could see the sea, the trees in the gardens obscured it. This we could handle. The sink in the bathroom was cracked, there was hair in the bath and small ants were using the bathroom as a walk-way to get to and from where-ever they were going....all this we could of put up with as you only use the room to sleep. But being next door but one to the outside bar (as the hotel is on a slant, so there is a ground floor where the gardens are but the main heart of the hotel is on the first floor), that was serving drinks to everyone wishing to dance the waltz until 11pm at night was not acceptable - the rooms are not big and our daughters bed was directly next to the patio door therefore she couldn't sleep because of the noise of the 'bontempi' and everyone getting drinks.
This brings me onto the staff. I have already informed you that the restaurant staff are less than happy if you do not comply to the rules. But this was nothing compared to the reception staff that my partner came across that evening. Firstly he was told there were no other rooms in the hotel - then lo-and-behold when my partner refused to take no for an answer they found a room.....we were informed we could move straight away or in the morning. As we have a young daughter moving at 11pm was out of the question, so he chose to move in the morning. Our daughter is only 4 and tends to move around quite a bit at night when she is asleep - so I had very little sleep as I kept hearing her banging into the patio door and kept jumping up to check she was okay. By the morning we had made up our minds that this hotel is NOT a four star by any stretch of the imagination - by the way; ladies if you like to use a hair-dryer then take your own (I think this is one of the critera set out to be a four star!!!), as the one supplied is so poor that you may as well blow on your own hair, everything in this hotel requires renovation. So back to the staff....I was very lucky the guy at reception I spoke to the next day informed us that we were not the first family with children to want to leave and he completely understood. He asked if we wanted our money back on our card or in cash and informed us that if got our money back on the card it could take upto 4 days for the money to be back in our account. So we took the cash. However there was a lady on at reception too, she wasn't too happy at us leaving and made several comments on this fact. I then spent the next 90mins searching the internet, a bargain at 1euro for 15 mins-to find a new hotel. And total stress as we had to be out before 12pm.
By 11:30am we were packed up and getting ready to leave and we bumped into the little girl my daughter had played with in the evening. They said they hated the hotel too and had booked independently - the only difference was they had used 'On the Beach', we had contacted the hotel directly. So here are my top tips if you don’t want to pay travel agent fees....Research - I use Trip Advisor, and granted this time the reviews I have read for this hotel were more than rose-tinted, but usually they are very good. Look for a hotel that is listed with the tour operators and third party booking companies. Type in the name of the hotel and its location on the Internet, there is a very good chance you will find that the hotel has it's own website - that way you are far more likely to get your money back to book another hotel if it isn't suitable. The people we met were unable to get there money back as 'On the Beach' is a third party to the booking and the big disadvantage of this is when there is a problem on holiday you have got no-one to turn to, until you get home. You pay a premium to use a large tour operator but they will assist you if you are not happy as they are usually on-site at least a couple of times a week. By booking the holiday yourself you have to be prepared to fight your own corner if it isn't suitable, for me this was the first time in my life I have ever walked out of a hotel and asked for my money back, but I am very glad I did as the 3star hotel we went too wasn't brilliant but it was far, far better than this one.

My wife and I spent two weeks at the Don Gregory at the beginning of March.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. The accommodation was very clean and well maintained.
Plenty of restaurants in the area.
We like to walk and we had plenty of scope for that.
We would return without hesitation.

Myself and my daughter 11 just arrived back from Gregory and have to say it was fantastic. The rooms was in a perfect location onthe ground floor with garden and overlooking the fantastic sea view. The food was great with a fantastic choice and the All Inclusive option for us was brill, my daughter loved the food and she never complained once. The staff were great and really friendly but i felt that they could have given me a bit more information about what was included inthe All inclusive package (we had to find out by ourselves), so for future reference just look onthe All Inclusive menu outside onthe tables it tells you what bar food and drinks you can have while seated outside.Other meals are inthe resturant, and one tip for evening tea (ask if you can have the same table at the same time every night and they will reserve it for you) otherwise you will que and 8pm is the better time. And now to my only complaint about Gregory and that is the Pool man(THE KIDS ALL 3 OF THEM COULD DO NOTHING RIGHT NO RUBBER RINGS NO T-SHIRTS) He was a very grumpy man and needed to learn some manners. This is a place to really relax with no noisy brits (i am one myself) brit that is and it doesn`t` really cater for the kids so the beach is great. Entertainment on a evening was great for the waltz and tango for the older generation who filled the hotel but was soothing. Although the hotel population was more German and Spanish i had the time of my life, it was all about the perfect peace and quite that i got ( i`m only In my forty`s so i am not old) and the best touch was when i went to my room to find a bottle of champayne on ice for my birthday ( and i had not told a sole ).
Well done Gregory i`m coming back next year, bye for now and see you then.
Ann . Goole.

This is a lovely Hotel right on the beach of San Augustin.
We stayed H/B for 7 nights and were impressed by the variety and quality of the food.
The staff could not have been more helpful.
Our room was fairly basic which was as expected as we chose a value package but had a garden and sea view on the ground floor.
As most reviews state the majority of people staying at this hotel and in fact in the south of the Island tend to be German, but we found this to be quite a pleasant change. I would suspect that the majority, like us are retired, so probably not the best location for families with young children.
The promenade is splendid. You can walk to Playa del Ingles 20mins and then to the Dunes at the east of Maspalomas about another 20min. Lots of Bars, Restaurants and shops on the way.
My above average rating is for the overall experience, but to be fair the Hotel is not a true 4 star. To a lot of people it would only rate as 3 star. But don't let that put you off.
