Finally made it to the Musandam and stayed at the Golden Tulip for 3 nights. As mentioned in other reviews, the location is hard to beat. Perched on a rock strutting out into the water with the mountains behind. You can sit on the balcony soaking up the view for hours. The place is reasonably new and so in good repair, clean and with all the basic necessities. Unlike other reviewers we found the food to be perfectly fine, but as it was off season there were no buffets, so it was all a la carte. There was a decent choice and the quality was good. The caf? in the hotel seemed to be the local hang out (no alcohol) and you could mingle with the locals. The English pub was a little stale and boring, but if you need a beer before bed it’s your only choice. Clearly in summer the heat is stifling and it hardly cools down at night with 42 C at close to midnight.
Khasab is a great base for a few days exploring and if diving is your thing there is a dive centre right in the hotel. Did a half day boat cruise which was great with dolphins racing the dhow. The drive into the mountains is breathtaking but not for the faint hearted

This is the only viable hotel in the Mussandam of Oman. The rooms are fine, comfortable and each has a balcony with view and the views are wonderful as the Mussandam is one of the few unspoiled, pristine areas left in the world - and so beautiful. The food at this hotel is dreadful however and very overpriced. While a breakfast buffet is included, the buffet features runny powdered scrambled eggs, often stale bread/rolls and re worked mezes. Nonetheless, you can find enough to eat. The Dinner buffet which is the only option in the restaurant, is very overpriced and definitely poor quality. I highly suggest eating one of the few choices from the bar menu but so far have found only the fish/chips decent. For the price at 90 OR (One Omani Rial = $3.88 US), be cautious for dinner and the drinks are overpriced.
There is a very satisfactory pool area and steps from the dive center's rocks down to the sea which is terrific in terms of viewing sealife.

The Tulip is the nicest hotel (of the four) in town. By European standards, its probably closer to 3-stars. Personally, I think its a bit overpriced; but it is a nice, clean place on the water. The menu is more safe than adventurous, and the English pub a bit stale, but recognize you are in a very remote location. The town is all about being away and relaxing (especially for those of us coming from Dubai). Why anyone would take kids here is beyond me--its more for couples looking to get away. A boat trip is a must. As is the drive along the coast. Camping is also allowed on the beaches, and there are some great scenic spots in the mountains. The souq in town is alright, but nothing intoxicating. Really, the town--and the Tulip--are a place for peace and quiet.

We had four nights in the Golden Tulip. It's a wonderful location, sea, cliffs, but no beach. We had a large room with sitting area and balcony. For a 4 star hotel we were surprised that the sheets and towels were not changed during our stay, even when we left one towel on the bathroom floor - it was just picked up and put back on the rail! The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very average but the evening buffets were excellent. If you are arriving by air make sure you are met at the airport - the hotel has no courtesy buses, and there are no taxis in Khasab, so without the friendly offer of a lift to the hotel by a departing staff member of the airport we're not sure how we would have arrived. Musandam is beautiful - the day long dhow trip and 4x4 trip into the mountains were wonderful.

We stayed here as part of a DIY holiday in Oman. In terms of location it has to be one of the few hotels where pictures don't do it justice. The rooms were clean and comfortable so no issues there. Most if not all have great views out to sea.
The staff were friendly and helpful. My wife had an eye infection and it wasn't a problem to get them to take us down to the nearest doctor where they stayed with us until she was treated before taking us back. They were also very nice to children.
We have two small children, 3 and 5, and they loved the place. There are two swimming pools, one for adults and one for children. There's a great playground for the kids just by the pool meaning we could have a relatively peaceful outdoor dinner.
The food was acceptable if not outstanding and that was the only slight let down. Overall however this is a great hotel in a great location and we would like to return sometime.
