Booked this hotel mainly because it had a good review on this site and it seemed to have everything we wanted, but to be honest I woudnt stay again. It had some redeeming points i.e. allowed us to check in early with no extra cost and a good restaurant and lovely woodside location, but overall we were a little dissapointed with the Mastbos. We booked a duluxe room which I must say I think the hotel do rather over-rate as they do the hotel in general. The hotel is less than inviting and very dark , and the 1st floor landing our room was on stinks of stale tobbacco and looks very tired.
The first room we were given the key to absolutely reeked of very stale tobbacco smoke and although quite large was uninviting with dirty windows. We asked for a non smoking room and were allocated a much fresher room that was smaller, but seemed cosier and more welcoming. The bathroom was the best thing about the room as it had a nice whirlpool corner bath with dimmable lighting.
The room itself had very dark furniture that was dated and a bit shabby with wardrobes with hiddeous metal wire for doors, really horrid. This room was supposed to have a forest view which it did have, but over a puddled flat roof with skylights, not attractive. The room did have a very large comfortable bed and cleanliness was good. The room should have had a coffee maker , but it was conspicuous by its absence. There is no air conditioning but the window was openable, and all you could hear was birdsong form the adjacent woods, very peacefull. Overall we found the staff pleasant enough and efficient, and the outdoor terrace overlooking the woods was a very popular spot for lunch and drinks with local dog walkers as well as hotel guests and the food was very good value and very tasty , (look out for the resident tame, but tatty crow that wanders around the tables!)
The restaurant was well used and the food was of a good standard, and not too pricey for a hotel restaurant. If you have a car then Breda city is only about 10 minutes but by foot you can only reach the Ginneken (2 kms )a quiet but undoubtedly pretty suburb with a small town square with enough pubs and restaurants for a good night out. I would say beware of the hotel web site and other web sites that list not so nearby facilities as being hotel facilities such as pool etc which were miles away.
I think the hotel oversells itself as a higher stadard than it actually was, which was a bit shabby and dated in a less than convenient location (unless all you came for is to walk in the woods) and not much in the way of facilities, and not cheap either. To be honest I have stayed in nicer B&B places in England and I am sure you could do better in Holland than this.

To whom this may concern.
During 6 wondefull days May 2005 my wife and i stayed at the Mastbosch as it was recommended by family in Breda.
Normally as we travel to Holland we stay with family ,but this time we wanted to be totally independed from others.
We recommend this hotel highly. The clean rooms the breakfast and real nice was the location in the peacefull old wood forest surrouding the hotel. We did go for many early walks and the nature did help us every day to enjoy our stay in Brabant.
We will be back some day.
Greetings and a thank you to all the staff.
