We travelled to the hotel from Peschiera station at the southern end of Lake Garda - the train journey (on an "R" - Regional train) took about an hour and a half, after arriving an hour late at Peschiera, but only cost about 8 euros single.
The Tritone is two minutes, across the main road, from Mestre station, from which trains depart about every 10 minutes (from early until midnight) to Venice Santa Lucia Station - right on the Grand Canal.
We had room 111, which was entirely pleasant and satisfactory, albeit it had little natural light from a small corner window and a terrible view over wasteland
The room had TV with several English speaking news channels - BBC World, CNN etc. There are also various on demand English or Italian movies for 8 euros each. The room also had an inclusive safety deposit box, adjustable aircon, and complimentary toiletries.
Breakfast was very good - cereals, fruits, croissants etc, as well as fruit juices and cappuccino.
This hotel is ideal if you want a reasonably priced, modern and comfortable hotel 10 minutes by train (1 euro single) out of Venice. However, you (or your girlfriend) will be disappointed if you are expecting a view of Venice / The Grand Canal!
When you arrive at Santa Lucia you can visit the small tourist office in the station to buy a city (and island) map for 2 euros. You can also buy Vaporetta (public boat) tickets for a single journey or for up to several days unlimited travel.
We paid less than ?100 per night, and equivalent 4 star hotels on Venice island were more than ?200 per night. If you're lucky you might get a two star in a back alley on Venice itself for the same money, but it probably wouldn't have aircon and include breakfast etc. Ask yourself what you really want before you book....

We spent three nights at the Tritone and were extremely pleased. We bought a 72-hour pass (31 euros) that included all bus and all vaporetti travel so there was no problem getting back and forth to Venice. The bus stop (#2) is directly across the street from the hotel and a ten minute ride will take you to the Piazzale Roma where you can get a vaporetti that takes you to anywhere in Venice. It was so convenient. The hotel itself was extremely clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There is free internet in the lobby. We would definitely stay there again instead of staying in Venice itself. The cost is much less and it is so much quieter than staying in the busy areas of Venice.

Stayed twice there, both times were perfect. Stay in that great place for very affordable price, take a bus or a train to Venice, avoid parking troubles, parking thefts, Venice hotels overprice etc.

I stayed here for one night with a friend on a recent trip to Europe. We decided to stay in Mestre instead of Venice because it was cheaper and we chose right. This hotel is right across the road from Mestre station, so very convenient both checking in and for getting the train across the water to Venice the next day. Mestre doesn't have much happening, but we were only there for a night basically to have dinner and sleep so that was fine. Our rooms were spacious compared to the other hotels in Europe we stayed in, and there was even a bath! The breakfast (included in our room rate) was great, with a very good selection. Staff were friendly, rooms were clean, no problems at all. Definitely recommended!
