We stayed in this hotel for a conference. I had made a reservation 2 weeks before, for me and a friend. After the check in, we went to the room and they gave us a married room! We tried to change and they told us to try to change the room with other person, that we do not know and was participating in the conference. Unbelievable! Only after the woman from the organization commitee spoke in duch with them, they changed our room to other one with 2 single beds. The room was too old and the hair dryer was from the 60?s!! The breakfast was ok. When we tried to proceed the check out, they didn?t want to accept it, because the 2nd room, in their computer, was reservated for 3 more days, and they wanted us to pay for that! After a long time they agreeded that our reservation was another one! The ladies from the reception desk were extremely not polite. Finally, we had to pay one euro for each time that we used or just tried to use the fone!! The only good thing of this terrible hotel was its location (close to Keukenhof)

We decided to stay here instead of in Amsterdam because it was only slightly cheaper but that was a mistake. We wanted to see the flowers which was great and the hotel is right on the road to arrive at Keukenhof which was nice. However, upon arriving at the hotel the smoke was apparent from the lobby. I made sure our room was non-smoking and then proceeded with check in. Then I asked where the pool was and she directed me but said that it was closed until 7:45pm! What? "You mean I can't use the pool until tonight? I booked the hotel knowing that my son would be thrilled they have a pool." "Sorry." was all i got, at 8pm he's in bed!
So being aggrivated with that found our room and it was dirty, dated and not worth the 147euro NOT including breakfast that we are paying. The wifi is good but that is about it.
Stay somewhere else!
I wish I knew of some place to recommend but I don't yet. Take the time and search websites to find something else and you are bound to at least save some money.

We have stayed 2 nights at the Golden Tulip Lisse and the overall impression of this hotel is to be more likely a 3 star than a 4 star hotel. Bathroom is basic, no heating, poor air-ventilation and rooms are noisy, no pictures on the walls - typical motel style charme. The pool area is closed most of the day for hotel guests, as there are private swimming instrucions held for childrens of the local area. This hotel deserves no 4 star rating. Stay somwhere else for less money.

We stayed one night at this hotel because we were attending a wedding reception that took place there. Our overall impression was that this hotel got stuck somewhere in the 70's-80's in terms of decoration: yellowish-beige-ish bath and sinks, brownish carpets, etc. Everything is incredibly dated (with lots of wear and tear) and would need serious renovations and new decoration.
In our room was spider webs everywhere in the wall corners, behind the curtains as well. The bathroom mirror was dirty and so was the window; it looked like it hadn't been washed in years, neither on the inside nor on the outside.
But that's not the worse (yes, it can be worse): I was quietly sitting on the side of the bath while it was filling up with water, when I noticed a PUBIC HAIR of unidentified origin in the bath. EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW. Believe me, it wasn't mine. Needless to say, I skipped the bath that evening.
We could have complained, but the hotel was rather full, my friend (the bride) was paying for the room and I was running a fever because I had the flu, so I didn't want to make any fuss, I just wanted to enjoy the party, get a few hours of sleep and go home as quickly as possible.
The next morning, we had breakfast. It was ok-ish. The sausages tasted like fish, but that's another story.
All in all, I would honestly NOT recommend this hotel and I was seriously disappointed. It's a GOLDEN TULIP for heaven's sake, meaning it's supposed to achieve a certain level of quality standards, right? Thank goodness we stayed there for free after all...

I booked this hotel after reading the 3 great reviews and ignoring the recent bad review. However, I would book somewhere else next time for a couple of reasons:
First, it does not seem to matter where you go in the hotel, you can smell cigarette smoke.
We checked in late in the evening and our first room was small and it smelled. It got worse the next morning when I was in the bathroom, like someone was standing in the room with me smoking. I notified the desk clerk and she moved us immediately without question (which was nice) and even upgraded our room.
This, however, did not pan out either. As soon as we turned on the ventilation system in the new room, the cigarette smell was back.
Second, I was travelling with a family member and we needed separate beds. I booked a twin room and when we checked into the first room, there was only what appeared to be one double bed. When we inquired at the desk, we were told to take of the cover and pull the two beds apart. I thought this very odd. There was hardly any space in the tiny room to do this but we did because we were tired.
When we were moved to another room due to the smokey smell, we again saw what appeared to be a double bed and assumed we could pull the beds apart again that night. We went out for the entire day and returned again late at night only to find that the bed was ONE double bed! We were too exhausted to move rooms so one of slept on the floor (ridiculous for what is billed as a 4 star hotel -- you'd think the staff could keep track of the fact that we originally booked a twin room).
The next day we asked to be moved again to a room with 2 beds, only to be given a key to another tiny room that smelled of cigarette smoke. So we stayed where we were and one of us slept on the floor.
The only other negative is that the hotel is somewhat difficult to find. Make sure you have good instructions from the hotel or a good on-line map service. The hotel is not exactly in the town are of Lisse but just outside. Trying to find it just by following road signs to Lisse will not work.
If you can handle constant cigarette smoke and tiny rooms, this hotel could be o.k. On the upside, and contrary to the prior negative review, I found the on-site restaurant just wonderful. We ate here the first and last nights, and for breakfast, were treated very well, and the food is great. I never found the area unkempt or the floor uncleaned. The breakfast buffet was also quite impressive. Also, the bathrooms in all the rooms (even the small ones) are really big and nice.
