My husband and I stayed at the Tulip Inn for three nights at the end of June while he was attending a conference at the university. We found the hotel to be satisfactory. They upgraded us to a "family" room with two queen size beds upon arrival. The room was clean and the bathroom was great. The beds were fine, we slept well. The hotel is located right across the street from the train station (which was perfect for us since we took day trips to the Hague and Delft) and it's a 10 min. walk back to the center of Leiden. We enjoyed our stay - it's not luxury but it didn't appear to me that Leiden has any luxury hotels (no need). Breakfast is something crazy like 15-20 Euros per person so avoid eating at the hotel if you can. We found a really great cafeteria style place (very affordable) inside the train station. You could probalby find a cheaper room in this city - but if you want to be comfortable, stay here.

I expected this hotel to be the largest and most comfortable of our trip between three hotels but I was unexpectedly disappointed. The bedspread was filthy when we arrived and had to have it replaced. The room was small and the shower was so small it was almost unusable. This was for a hotel that was the most costly of our three that we had stayed in. Definately not worth the price. The location was actually better than I had expected as it was only a short walk to the main square. I thought that I would get a room away from the main area so it would be quieter but it was next to the train station and a main road so it was actually even more noisy. I would try a smaller hotel around the main area next time. It was a short walk to the train and bus but that was the best thing about it.

I booked this hotel by mistake, I meant to book the Amsterdam Tulip Inn. However it turned out to be a good mistake. The hotel was wonderful. Clean rooms, and amazing breakfasts. Only 35 mins on the train to Amsterdam and appx 15 to the airport. Leiden is a beautiful town and it was good to get out of the craziness of Amsterdam. If you dont want ot be in the thick of it all the time in Amsterdam consider staying here, this is the kind of mistake i wouldnt mind doing again!

As a family of five we stayed at the Tulip Inn Lieden for two nights in July 2007. I highly recommend this hotel. It is five minutes walk from Leiden Central Railway station and bus station and just five minutes walk to the main shopping area also. Our train journay from Schipol airport to Leiden took 20 minutes and only €13 for a family of five. Family room for us included two very large double beds and a pull out bed. Room was very quiet even though we were in close proximity to the railway station. Bathroom had very large deep bath and overhead shower and a silent extractor fan. Breakfast was served in the dining room of the Golden Tulip Hotel and was excellent. I highly recommend this reasonably priced hotel and it was an ideal stopover for us before travelling onwards to Dunreill Holiday Centre ( by bus 15 minutes).

A central spot for daytrips

The Tulip Inn in Leiden is located a short walk from the train station. We chose it as a base for daytrips to other points in the Netherlands (although Leiden itself is definitely worth at least a day).
The hotel is very modern, with clean well-appointed rooms, but it fell down in a few respects:
- The room was too hot, with the window bolted shut. This was particularly frustrating because the weather was comfortable outside. Hotel management was of no help.
- High prices on the hotel facilities, such as internet and restaurant.
