Very charming hotel. The room and bathroom were very clean but also very small. The furniture was very old and cheap but functional. My room had a view of a wall and service alley. The staff were a bit direct and to the point-- not unfriendly, but not warm. There seemed to be enough staff, but they just seemed to become easily overwhelmed. They also were not especially creative and did not have a supply of basics such as toothbrush or antacid. The breakfast was great with lots of choices from American style to European. This is definately an ok choice if your needs are modest. I did not feel like walking through the lobby in my bathrobe, so I did not explore the spa services. Overall, I was not unhappy with this choice, but I'd probably explore something closer to the center of Alstadt before returning.

We chose the Kasererbrau for its location, a prime site in the old town and near to the shops and markets. We were also influenced by the rustic charm, as suggested by guide reviews and the website, which talked about traditional rooms and antique furniture. It promised much but didn't quite deliver.
Our room was odd, positioned just off the stairwell, nicely placed for those returning late at night or leaving early in the morning. The furniture was more IKEA than antique, with the double bed slotted into a space allowing about 12 inches on the one side, for someone with legs to move about. If you drew the short straw you simply had to launch yourself into the bed space from the bottom of the bed. This long room had another bed on the far side of the small shower / bathroom, with a door to a tiny patio area which would be of interest to smokers. Poky, odd choice of furniture but clean. And the quilts and pillows were good.
Apart from a pleasant breakfast on two monrings, along with other happy shoppers, there isn't much to add. If you are thinking of staying here, you might want to book a more traditional room and preferably one away from the stairs. If this couldn't be guaranteed then I would look elsewhere.

Fine except for the toilet paper
Guest name: Lara-says, Annapolis
I just came back from staying a week at this hotel. It is a nice family hotel. I guess the worst was the European toilet paper. Make sure and bring your wipes. Room 324 was nice and roomy for European standards. Stayed one night in room 44O. This is supposed to be a double room. Maybe by Manhattan standards but does Salzburg think they are Manhattan? Stay way from this room. You have to walk sideways to negotiate a path between the wall and the beds. Night lights had only one shut off for both of the beds. Good luck if you have different reading habits at night. If you are used to a lot of counter space as found in American hotel bathrooms, this hotel is not for you. Neither room had a lot of space in the bathroom. Certainly not for two people. Nice breakfast room. The overall location of this hotel is behind the Cathedral - about a two minutes walk and convenient to the Christmas market which I enjoyed. If you expect a nice, clean two star hotel without frills, this is it.

Arrived with prepaid reservations (something we never do) and were told that they were oversold...sorry! They were willing to send us somewhere else but so much planning had gone into our 2-1/2 week trip we weren't ready to move; not to mention a long train day from Budapest. When I dug in and refused to move they miracuously found a room! Upon leaving and returning we were never greeted with a smile, a thank you in returning the key. Most times I found it necessary to go around the counter while the ladies chatted in the back office. Beautiful city...lousy hotel!

If you want to stay in the old city and need parking for your car, this hotel is a convenient and reasonably priced option. Parking by the day was only 9 euros and just around the corner from the hotel. Be sure to request a space at the time of booking.
Our double was in the recently renovated category. Although it was on the backside of the building with only roofs and wooded hills across the river for a view, the room was unusually large by European standards: room enough for the twin beds pulled together, an enormous wardrobe and a banquette/table set-up big enough to seat four+ people. From the terrace below we could hear the hotel's caged canaries singing their little hearts out.
The bathroom was a decent size though the sink was cracked and the shower curtain hung from a tension rod. But everything was clean.
The breakfast room was decorated in the same, colorful and traditional decor as the rest of this old (1342!) hotel and offered a full selection of hot and cold breakfast staples. The coffee machine served up excellent coffee in six different styles.
