Hotel sehr zentral gelegen, Zimmer 3.

We have just spent 4 days at this historic hotel and had a wonderful time. Our clean and well furnished L-shaped room (a triple) on the 4th floor overlooking the Christmas decorated street, was huge and had a king sized bed and a very comfortable full sized double sofabed which was made up for our daily use. There was loads of wardrobe space, a table, easy chairs and the most comfortable armchair ever to match the sofa. The bathroom was very large and modern with plenty of towels which were changed regularly. The room was lovely and warm and also had a TV, writing desk and an entrance hall with further storage. There was three double glazed windows which could be opened to look out onto the street below. The floors creaked a bit but as we were on the top floor we weren't bothered by it. The building seemed very solid so maybe it is well soundproofed.
The bedrooms were modern but the rest of the hotel was in keeping with it's age and had some protected public rooms. We ate in one of the old restaurants on the first night and the meal was very good.
Apart from one humourless receptionist (maybe she was having a bad day) the rest of the staff, including the other reception staff, were friendly and helpful. A nice touch was a free welcome drink for all guests.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's in a narrow old lane (Linzergasse) close to the Mirabell gardens (Sound of Music), shops and restaurants, and just a few steps from the river and bridge across to the Cathedral, Mozart birth place, one of the best shopping streets in Austria, the Christmas market and funicular railway to the fortress etc. Everything is within a 5-10 minute walk.
The only small gripes are the lack of a printer to go with the somewhat old computer for internet access in the reception area, and tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, not something that happens in European hotels as much as here in the UK.
We'd stay there again.

Great Hotel

We stayed here over Xmas 07 and it was worth every penny. Lovely big room, quite modern. Would have liked a big double bed but we got the two twins pushed together you get so often in Europe. This was the only complaint and pretty minor at that. The food was lovely, breakfast plentiful served by lovely friendly staff. The restaurant and bar are busy with locals as well as visitors and you can see why - the food is delicious and cheap. We ate there 4 nights out of the 7. The location is excellent, just 5 minute walk from the old town and the main attractions. Salzburg at Christmas is beautiful and we had a great holiday. I can highly recommend this hotel, we booked it after reading reviews on TA.

Stayed here for a week, leading up to the Mozart festival. Firstly, as others have mentioned - this is not a 4* hotel - the bed/bath rooms are of a good size and well cleaned, however are basic. There is no mini-bar/air con etc and the 'satellite' tv consists of 30 German channels and CNN. HOWEVER - the hotel staff are great, the location is superb, the breakfast buffet provides a good choice and the restaurant food is of a high standard and reasonably priced, plus they brew their own beer (Keller bier) which is lovely! Can't stress the location enough, 2-3 minutes walk from the old town, the fort, the palace etc etc. Highly recomended!
