We loved the Albergo Villa Marta. Lucca is the most charming town, and this hotel is the ideal accompaniment. You feel that you are out in the country, but it is a five minute drive to the walled city. The food is delicious, I am still dreaming about the antipasto platter on the dinner menu. That with a bottle of local Fubbiano wine is a meal in itself, and you can have a nightcap in the candlelit canvas tented seating area on the grounds. The staff are incredibly lovely, and there are bikes if you like to explore the area. Breakfast here was my favorite of any hotel in Italy. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Lucca...

Recently five members of our family spent a blissful and most enjoyable nine days at Albergo Villa Marta. Our rooms were large enough and very comfortable with beautiful views. The staff were gracious, friendly and proficient--especially the four delightful young ladies who man the reception desk. The housekeeping was excellent--there was even an evening turn-down and a tidying of the ample bathroom.
The meals and meal service were top grade. Breakfast was a fine way to start the day. Coffee was hot and plentiful. The fruits and homebaked pastries were varied and perfect. Dinner was sumptuous and especially well prepared. The drinks are generous, and the wine choices are broad.
Another positive about Villa Marta is its outstanding location for exploring western Tuscany. With our knowledgable driver, we were able to easily access a wide variety of interesting locations, including Portofino, Cinque Terre, Barga, Florence, Bibbiano, the Siena area, etc.
All in all, we recommend Albergo Villa Marta enthusiastically.

I am going to be a bit of a spoiler here, after all the superb reviews.
I travel in Italy alot, and have stayed in many wonderful places.Albergo Villa Marta is pristeen, serene, impeccable and elegant and made to order.......for certain folks. It is not a casual, laid back environment. It is a great place for folks who wish to be "not seen and not heard." One could hide well here.
There is a beautiful pool yet, no pool chairs to sit in, or at least there were none in April. The pool was filled, the weather perfect, but no chairs to enjoy, poolside. There is one small pergola that one might sit and enjoy the lovely outdoors.....unless you wish to dine or imbibe at the restaurant/bar tables outside. If you have dinner plans elsewhere ( which we had), then there really is no place to sit outdoors and simply enjoy.....except the uncomfortable seats under the pergola.
The place is really perfection in most ways, unless you want to let "your hair down" even a little. If so, this is NOT the place. I felt as though I needed to speak in hushed tones and tiptoe around, and truly NOT BE SEEN or heard. Not a slam on the actual place. Just an FYI if you choose it.

Just wanted to reiterate previous reviews about this charming hotel outside Lucca. We had a charming room, with a fresco-ed ceiling, beautiful bathroom, all immaculately clean (the bathroom room positively shone!). There was a very pleasant lounge to relax in, a terrasse on which to take a pre-dinner glass of prosecco (just warm enough this April!) and an excellent dinner and breakfast. All the staff were delightful, helpful and spoke very good English. It's not cheap, but you feel you are getting good value for your money. We only stayed one night, as our flight got into Pisa relatively late in the afternoon and didn't want a major drive on our first day in Italy. It proved very convenient to the airport (but do print off their directions from the website) and we enjoyed the following morning in Lucca. I will definitely return.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in May 2008. We LOVED it! Family run. Andrea and his staff made this hotel the best during our 2 week trip in Italy. The property is gorgeous, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area, and the breakfast was wonderful. The rooms are clean and spacious, very unique for Italy. This is a 5-star hotel in my book and anyone traveling in Tuscany should stay here. Only 5 minute drive from Lucca and close to the ocean and the mountains. In a perfect location. My husband and I have already thought about going back! Don't miss this gem of a hotel.
