My wife and I stayed here one night in July 2008. The hotel location is superb, right on the impressive town square. You are right in the heart of things here - there are plenty of places to eat within a two minute walk.
Check-in and check-out was highly efficient and the staff spoke good English.
We booked an executive room with a view of the square. It was absolutely enormous - the size of a smal flat. The furnishings were very modern and the room was clean.
One downside - the window onto the square did indeed have a great view but it was tiny and not really adequate for the size of the room. You could only enjoy the view by walking right up to it and peering out. The room was well lit but lacking light due due to the small window.
The in-room safe presented problems. I simply could not get it to work and ended up locking our things in twice. Calling the front desk brought a quick response and unlocking but there was clearly something lacking in the instructions. I emphasise that in hundreds of hotel stays this has never happened to me before!
The bathroom was good but both my wife and I had trouble containing water in the shower area due to its design and so we had large puddles on the bathroom floor. At one point I thought Noah's Ark was going to come though.
The bed was a little soft for my liking,
The breakfast buffet was generally good but the hot food was a little lacking - it just looked as though it had been there too long - sausages excepted.
In spite of the above grumbles I would still stay again. The location, spacious, well-furnished clean, room and good service overcome the niggles. This is probably one of the best places to stay in Ceske Budejovice.

The Grand Hotel Zvon is a very classy hotel located on the square in Ceske Budejovice. The square is perhaps one of the main shopping areas of the city and contains lots of nice shops and a couple of restaurants. The hotel room was very nice, including a tub in the bathroom. Beds and pillows were comfortable as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was included in the rate we paid, and it was good. We chose the hotel because some of the reviews indicated its close proximity to the train station. I guess it depends on how one defines “close.” It was between ½ to ¾ of a mile, so one might give some consideration to that. There appeared to be one or two taxis at the train station that could be useful. Associated with the hotel are one or two restaurants, including one that features another local beer, not Budvar which Ceske Budejovice is famous for. Naturally, we tried both of them. If one is a beer lover, one will not be disappointed by either of the beers featured.

A fabulous hotel in the main square of this lovely town. However we booked it at last minute at a very keen price and ended up in large attic room with no air-con. Windows bolted shut with no effective blinds. 32C/90F outside! Restaurant excellent and breakfasts too.

The lobby and other public areas are just slightly above average. The room itself was a little dated, but since this hotel claims to have been in operation since 1533 (473 years)... I'll try to be gentle. We arrived without a reservation about 7:00pm on a Tuesday evening in August and were offered a 20% discount off the normal room rate for one night. The carpet in our room was acceptable, but was beginning to show minor signs of wear..... definitely time to replace it. The furniture was rather generic looking, but functional. It was a little hot in the room when we first entered and I noticed right away that there was no air conditioning, but after opening the windows, the room cooled down to a comfortable level. The bathroom was nothing special.... there was a single wash basin without much room for toiletries, a hair dryer hung unceremoniously by its electrical cord on a coat hook, and there were no amenities such as shampoo or bar soap. There were liquid soap dispensers in the bathtub and by the wash basin, and this is all that was provided. Our room overlooked the main town square which was quite pleasant especially around 9:00pm when a small orchestra played classical music outside our window for about half an hour.... a fantastic European touch! The beds were comfortable and we both slept well. No noise complaints or anything like that, although housekeeping opened the door to our room about 10:00am to see if we had departed. When we did depart around 11:45am, two maids were sort of camped outside our door waiting for us to leave. This hotel is ok, but I would rate it as maybe a 3+ star.... it is certainly not a four-star hotel as they claim.
