Beautiful place

This is a beautifully converted convent - on a street that doesn't look much at all (close to the Zocalo) and has you wondering as you walk down it, but then you turn into a lovely courtyard and hotel. Restaurant has a nice setting within this, we only ate breakfast there but that was pretty good.
Service was very good and helpful, and the rooms themselves were fairly nice. Took a bit of time for hot water to come out of the shower, but plenty when it did. Only minor drawback is that as the rooms are set round the second courtyard, it can get a bit noisy if people are up early or round the pool when you are trying to have a lie-in!

On our recent first visit to Merida, we stayed at a wonderful and unusual hotel called La Mision de Fray Diego. The hotel contains one of the most beautifully designed court yards in the city, the location was perfect, the rooms were atmospheric and comfortable, and the staff are really something to rave about. On the day before we were scheduled to leave, our room safe malfunctioned and would no longer open with our security code. I simply cannot say enough positive things about the respone and concerns of the staff. It took the services of a special locksmith to open the safe and the staff was absolutely wonderful in dealing with the problem. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Merida.

Our group of 8 had a very good experience at this hotel. We found the rooms to clean and comfortable.
The small courtyard setting was very relaxing contrast to the busy streets.
The restaurant was convenient and very nice, with good service and variety.
The location two blocks for the central square made for easy access to many of the historical sites.

The tour group selected this hotel and we stayed for 10 days. It is a gem. It is an old well-kept mansion with a beautiful patio and nice rooms looking at two nice courtyards. The service is excellent and the restaurant is wonderful. We were there when the weather was cool so we did not use the pool but it looked great.
I looked at other hotels in downtown Merida and this is by far the nicest.
It is about three blocks from the main plaza and the street it is located on is old and somewhat dilapidated but we always felt safe and had no problem going back and forth. The nice atmosphere of the hotel makes up for the small inconvenience of the location.
