Stayed there in 2003 and 2005 with my mother. Good service and food .Not cheap, but Switzerland is never cheap.The Grill Room and Pizzeria menu offer the best value.So you can order of that all day and evening to keep the costs down Quirky key cards that open the door to your suite and the need to put into slot once inside to turn on the electricity.The hotel does not give you instructions when you check in so it is guess work.Also there are insufficient instructions on how to use the telephone in the suite.Hotel updated in 1995. Rooms could do with an update.

I have to celebrate my mother who turns 80 in a couple of months. So why not take her to a Grande Olde Dame in Lugano? Which seems reasonably priced? So I whizzed down overnight to scout the Lido Seegarten. After having explained my purpose and asked a couple of routine questions I was mailed back to provide my credit card number. I found this a trifle unusual for just one night with halfboard and said so. Hotel rules however, state that one MUST do so. So I phoned them and gave my number. 2 days before arrival I mailed another question l and got an answer from the owner, stating that "we are not so funny as You are" and that a credit card number was needed. I phoned for the second time, gave the number again, explained that it had been given previously, and the receptionist found the number as well. I asked them to tell the owner this. On arrival, I was shown to a clean room wit a lovely view. Modern furniture and electronic lock that did not work. Got a key which worked. Had a drink served by Cesare, the kind barman and a very decent three course dinner for CHF 50. Good selection of wine in half bottles. Good service in the restaurant with kind and interested waiters. On leaving I had to give my credit card and then punch in my security code behind the desk. Something I do not remember having been forced to do anywhere else. I would have been quite happy with the stay if the owner, or at least reception staff would have asked if everything was to my satisfaction, and, perhaps, if I would like to celebrate mother there. They did not. I mailed the owner afterwards and told her I felt a bit sad about the reception and the card thing but have to date received no reply. That unfortunately leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. The hotel is nice, the view lovely and the food good. I just wish the owner would have been a wee bit more interested in communication with her guests.

Ein großartiges Hotel mit vielleicht der besten Lage am See in Lugano. Das Hotel liegt direkt am See und hat eine große Terrasse zum See raus. Die Aussicht von den Zimmern mit Seeblick ist atemberaubend – direkt auf den See, den Berg Salvatore und noch weiter. Die Zimmer hatten eine schöne Größe und waren schön eingerichtet, sie waren ruhig und klimatisiert. Man hörte keinen Verkehrslärm. Wir hatten drei Mahlzeiten im Restaurant und alle waren exzellent, eine gute Auswahl, aber nicht billig. Aber in Lugano ist nichts billig. Das Frühstück war ein normales Büfett mit einer großen Auswahl. Die Spatzen waren recht frech und haben immer versucht, etwas vom Frühstück abzubekommen! Das Personal war sehr hilfsbereit und sprach in der Regel auch Englisch. Man merkte, dass man in der Schweiz ist, denn der Service war sehr zurückhaltend und respektvoll. Die Sonnenterrasse und der Pool haben eine wundervolle Lage und Aussicht, es gab dort viele Liegen und ausreichend Handtücher. Man braucht vom Hotel 10 bis 15 Minuten nach Lugano, die Strecke ist eben. Vor dem Hotel fährt auch ein Bus ab, der regelmäßig und pünktlich fährt. Man braucht Kleingeld, um an der Fahrkartenmaschine vor der Fahrt ein Ticket zu lösen und man bekommt kein Wechselgeld zurück. In und um Lugano wird nicht viel Englisch gesprochen, vor allem Italienisch und Deutsch. Wenn wir nach Lugano zurückkehren, werden wir definitiv wieder ins Lido Seegarten gehen, denn Lage und Aussicht sind wundervoll.

This is a well-sited hotel located on the shores of the lake. In summer, it should be possible to swim, as a diving platform on the lake suggests. The lakeview from the hotel rooms with that view is quite stunning. There is also a terrace attached to the restaurant and it's very pleasant when the weather is agreeable. The rooms are well proportioned. The quirks were these. First, the gym opens only from 8.30 am because it is on the top floor and the stomping apparently could affect those below. Second, the room I had had a tree trunk that split the view. It would be ideal for those who want to do a quick escape. But apart from James Bond and Jason Bourne, I find it hard to see the utility. They should cut the tree and replant it. Service was acceptable but cold. All things considered, I would recommend it, esp. if the price is right. Go for the lake view rather than the mountain/noisy-road view.

Dieses Hotel hat eine schöne Lage am Ufer des Sees. Im Sommer kann man dort bestimmt Schwimmen gehen, denn am See gab es einen Sprungturm. Die Aussicht auf den See von den Zimmern war wirklich sehr schön. Das Restaurant hat auch eine Terrasse, wo man bei schönem Wetter schön draußen sitzen kann. Die Zimmer hatten eine schöne Größe. Jetzt die etwas seltsamen Dinge: Der Fitnessraum im obersten Stockwerk machte erst um 8.30 Uhr auf, weil die Zimmer darunter wahrscheinlich durch den Lärm gestört würden. Dann hatte mein Zimmer einen Baum vorm Fenster, der die Sicht teilweise blockierte. Ideal für Leute, die schnell aus dem Zimmer verschwinden müssen. Außer James Bond und Jason Bourne wüsste ich nicht, für wen der Baum von Nutzen sein könnte. Sie sollten ihn beschneiden und woanders hin verpflanzen. Der Service war akzeptabel, aber kalt. Alles in allem kann ich es empfehlen, vor allem wenn der Preis stimmt. Fragen Sie nach einem Zimmer mit Blick auf den See und nicht auf die Berge/die laute Straße.
