Beautiful Hotel!
Guest name: KEKNewYork, New York
This hotel is right on the river and the rooms are great! Again, very basic for a typical American hotel, but I was impressed after learning what the typical European hotels are like. There is a nice breakfast in the morning - not your typical eggs and ham, but you get a nice, hot croissant and a selection of cheese, ham and cereal with your juice (typical of the hotels we stayed in). The bathroom was of average size, not tiny at all, and very comfortable. Our double had a room with a small balcony, which was nice. The best part of the hotel is the entry way and the adjoining rooms - they are beautiful. I believe the hotel is a renovated old palace, so take note of the chandeliers and frescoes on the wall. The staff recommended a place for us to eat: The Gallery - it is incredible! check it out when you get there, a nice woman is the chef there and we couldn't have enjoyed our food more, and the prices were not bad at all.

To be in Florance means to be in romance and in art history. Hotel Bretagna is the right place.
You are in the middle of the old city, on Arno River, you can walk almost every where including central train station.
Hotel building is a part of history with frescoes. You will enjoy having your cafe in a part of a palace, and your breakfast in a Baroc Salon
Prices are very reasonable, very friendly personal.
But if you are a Luxury type please choose another hotel.

There's still a fair bit of refurbishments going on so there was scaffolding on the outside so it wasn't easy to find. Also, it looked quite shabby on the inside of the building and the Reception looked tired too and at first I was on the verge of saying I'd made a mistake. However, we booked a superior room and they're the refurbished ones and they're absolutely fine. Very clean and spacious. The hotel is full of old world charm - it is rather surreal as it is like stepping back in time with its painted ceilings, chandeliers etc - and I think some people would consider it a bit too tired decor wise. Also, whilst it is a hotel it doesn't really have hotel service - staying there is a bit like renting a room for a couple of days in an grand old house. On the whole though it was a very interesting experience. The staff were wonderful, hugely helpful. The location simply cannot be faulted. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a couple of days in Florence.
