My wife and 8-year old daughter stayed for 3 nights here in late June, 2008. The hotel is in a great location. It's easy to walk or metro from the train station. It is also close to all the major sites, except maybe the Vatican. We walked to everything, even Borghese. It is small enough. The front staff was nice and professional. The rooms were typically small, but well decorated and furnished. The bathrooms were nice. Air conditioning worked okay. More often, I see european hotels with separate keys for the electricity. You have to plug the key into a slot to turn on the room's power. They have that feature here. The breakfast was average.
There is a rooftop restaurant that looked nice. We didn't eat there, but did have a nice gellato.
There are lots of good restaurants and shops nearby. Unfortunately, there is one restaurant just off the Piazza Barberini that has a "tout" trying to lure every obvious tourist into the restaurant. Avoid this and all places like it.

Albergo Ottocento

This was our third stay at Albergo Ottocento and it exceeded our expectations again. This hotel is conveniently located close to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Hotel is clean and comfortable. The most valuable asset of this hotel is clearly its staff. The Front Desk staff is the best we have ever encountered. Friendly, efficient, helpful any adjective you can use applies to this group. They continually make our stay in Rome a pleasure.
Great location, good service, fair price

Ottocento is a boutique hotel in the centre of Rome, right beside the Barberini metro and about 10 minutes from the Piazza Spagna (Spanish Steps). A great location and one that is hard to beat at this price. It has been recently renovated and the rooms, though small, are quite nice. The bathroom was of high quality, with a great shower and jacuzzi bath. We had room 104, which had a small patio on the interior courtyard. No sun and overlooked, but a nice touch and place to sit with a coffee. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, managing to iron some shirts late on Saturday night despite the laundry service being closed. They also let us take breakfast up to our room (to enjoy the patio) and to use their computer to print off the Internet. The restaurant upstairs on the terrace was expensive for what it was (80 euros for two - 1 bottle of wine, two small pasta dishes, two desserts) but had good views across town. At 230 euros a night, the place was hardly cheap, but then, Rome really isn't where one goes for a good deal.

We found this hotel via Trip advisor, and as we were very pleased with the result, we're contributing back to the site. This is a smallish hotel, very clean, very nice for a 4 star hotel, with a pleasing breakfast (could have a slightly larger spread, but I understand breakfasts on the continent are like that). We especially liked how quiet it was at night - the room protects wonderfully from noise and we slept most comfortably. The sheets, mattress and towels were all great. The location is somewhat northern, but I think that's not a disadvantage. We had for example, the amazing Villa Bourghese within walking distance and it turned out to be our most enjoyable excursion in Rome. (Don't miss it and don't forget to book in advance!). So - to get back to the hotel - add to this very good service, reasonable prices, in terms of Rome at least, and you'll understand why we give this hotel our "highly ommended" seal of approval.

This is a nice little hotel in the center of the city, very convenient to all public transportation and near the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. We stayed there for five days in Feb.-March 08 and had no problems. The desk staff was very helpful and spoke good English. The breakfast (included) was good and included scrambled eggs each day. For the price we paid, I think it was an above average deal. If you're going to do a lot of sightseeing and you are going to use public transportation, this is a very convenient place to stay. The room wasn't much to speak of, rather small, the beds were just OK, but it was very clean. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway. Oh, they do have free internet availability in the lobby, so that was a big plus for us.
