We got married in Taormina on 15th May 2008 and stayed in the Atlantis Bay Hotel for a week. It was perfect 5 star. The layout of the hotel is rather quirky but works well owing to the fact that it is cut into the rock. The restaurant is lovely with very well trained staff and delicious food. They served our wedding lunch to us and our 6 guests which was exquisite and we were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves.
There is no sandy beach to bathe on so if you are the kind of person who likes that sort of thing then perhaps you should not stay there. It was perfect for us however as we don't bother with sunbathing. There is a nice simming pool.
The views over the bay from the room were beautiful and you can waste many hours sat out on the balcony watching the world go by.
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and always served with a smile, perhaps those who have made complaints about the staff were simply bad customers as we didn't come across a single bad experience with the staff.
My only complaint if I had to make one was that a lot of people turned up late one night and we were kept awake by room service trollies going back and forth making lots of noise along the corridor until well beyond midnight, which I am sure is still early in the evening for some people, but we had gone to bed early as we were very tired from a day trip up to Etna. Also the hotel set off some fireworks late at night for some unknown reason. It would have been nice to be warned about this.
Taormina itself is beautiful with many places to explore, however the main street can get extremely busy with tourists at times.
I would definatly recommend this hotel and we will certainly be returning to the Atlantis Bay Hotel.

We had a junior suite which overlooked the bay. The facilities were fantastic and the decor very OTT in a fab sort of way. The breakfast buffet served just by the terrace was a gourmets delight, smoked salmon, tuna, swordfish , scrambled eggs to die plus please the usual hot and cold buffet , eggs ,bacon, croisants etc etc the lis was endless , frech fruit galore and of course the huge array of contiental pastries.
The fruit juice may have left abit to be desired but the free champers more than made up for that.
Very convenient to the cable car to go upto taomorina ,
Found the hotel and faclities fantastic , although we were surprised at the amount of russian guests !!
Recommend to anyone

The state and the standards of the hotel was way below average, in fact they were damn shocking. The room was tiny and only meant for two. Being a party of three they bunged a small, hospital like bed under the window making it a cramped three bedded room. The carpet was covered in blood and urine stains and god knows what other stains. The air-conditioning could not be used as it amplified the smell of urine in the room. The first night we couldn't use the bathroom for the almighty overpowering smell of sewerage.
One bed had blood in it. All beds were hard and uncomfortable. The room was prepared for two people, meaning only two of everything, when in fact there was three of us. The beds, room and bathroom was over run with tiny ants. The room was filthy, un-dusted and the stench was overwhelming. We couldn't get a single nights sleep from dogs barking, a train running all night - the room was literally shaken by the train going past every so many minutes just above our room. Every time a neighbour showered, washed their hands, flushed their toilet the noise from the water pipes would deafen our room.
The was no beach, the sea outside the hotel was littered with syringes and used condoms and other various litter. At least five weddings took place, meaning we couldn't use the sea terrace to dine and drink. The weddings would be celebrated by a firework display right outside our room, wakening us up near midnight, scaring my mum half to death. Supposedly hot food at breakfast was stone cold, as was the a la carte evening meals - I think out of all the meals and food we ordered and ate only one was hot.
The staff was very unpleasant and morning coffee was served with cracked and chipped cups, dirty plates with the added bonus of one waiters snot in our milk jug. The waiters even took to spitting phlegm on our door step. The entire holiday was a nightmare, sickening at times and after a fortnight of very little sleep due to all the above factors we were drained, ill and desperate to get home. I have never known time to drag like it did when we were there - it was terrible.
On our first day, we phoned reception to complain and request a different room. A frosty lady came to our room and offered another room for an extra €150.00 a night. That was the only alternative she could offer us. Not being able to afford that, we asked for alternative results, leading to a service man coming out to fix the sewerage leak in the bathroom and a maid to clean our room and a man came to clean the blood and urine stained carpet. The smell in the bathroom eventually died down but the carpet was still filthy and the room was still dirty.
Since being back home I have done some research on The Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay and have found many, many damning reports from other people who have stayed their so I we are not the only ones who are more than disappointed, riled and disgusted with the service and state of this hotel.
I have stayed in many five star hotels and have been more than delighted with the hotels. The Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay, Taormina, Sicily has been the worst one I have ever stayed in - it was the holiday from hell and ruined my mum's and my birthdays.

We are a family of three. We rented a one bedroom suite for about 750Euros per night. The room above us was undergoing demolition and renovation starting 7:30am. The front desk was unresponsive, ill informed (or lazy), and rude, as was their manager. After much work on my part, they moved us to a smaller suite at the other end of the building. Here the train ran under our terrace to enter the tunnel starting about the same time as the construction. The front desk staff and manager were terrible and our stay at the hotel was very disappointing.

We went on our Honeymoon to Italy this year. Had an amazing time in Italy, except for the Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay. Every Hotel we stayed in Italy either upgraded us to a different room, a bottle of Champagne even an acknowledgment that we were a honeymoon couple. Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay didn't even show us where they served breakfast. The Counter staff were very cold and unhelpful. I wanted to use the internet and they told me it was on where the Bar was. So I asked where the Bar was. They told me it was on the 2nd floor. The layout of the hotel was very confusing because the Hotel is built into a rock the 2st floor is below the Reception area. I eventually found the Bar but the Barman didn't understand English so couldn't use the internet. The price list for the Mini Bar was out of this world. €15 for a miniature whiskey, a coke €5 and we ordered Ice to the room and it cost €10. So for a Whiskey and Coke = €30. Every time we needed something we would go to other Hotels for advice around the area because we felt we were intruding when we approached the staff in the “Atlantis Bay Hotel.”
