Excellently located in the centre of Basel - right opposite the fair and congress area and near the musical-theatre - the Hotel du Commerce is offering its services as an ideal place to stay not only to fair and business guests, but also to the culturally interested individual traveller. Built in 1954 and continuously kept up-to-date -latest renovations in 1999-2002-2003-, the hotel is owned by the same family for over 48 years. Therefore, as a guest in our hotel, you will find yourself in a charming and friendly atmosphere, surrounded by a pleasant and modern interior. With pleasure we would like to present to you one of our newer acts - the 1999 finished new hotel building and car park in our quiet and completely new arranged yard - which allows us now to offer you still more comfortable rooms and more places to relax after a busy day. Our new designed lobby and floors as well as an extended and invitingly arranged breakfast room are some more renewals, with which we would like to surprise you at the Hotel du Commerce during your visit in Basel. Our team is looking forward to your attendance. Additional Information- 2 children age 5 and under stay free in the room with parents and in existing bedding. Children age 6-12 receive a reduction of 50 percent.

This is a nice hotel at a reasonable price. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern (the photos were taken with a mobile phone and don't really do them justice). Bathroom is very nice. TV has over 50 channels in many languages, includes BBC World and BBC Prime. There is a safe, plenty of wardrobe space, large desk, broadband access (did not use this), kettle with tea/coffee. I stayed in one of the rooms at the back ouf the hotel, which open directly onto an outdoor courtyard - quite nice. Hotel is 2 minutes walk from a tram stop which will get you anywhere in town. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice - continental style.

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and were very pleased with the room, its size as well as the size of the bathroom. Breakfast was a bit expensive (buffet) and,if you were on the same floor as the breakfast floor, was quite noisy as folks made their way to breakfast. However, the staff was wonderful, pleasant, easygoing and very helpful. We were very pleased and would return. My family who live in Basel actually reserved this room for me and they were right about the hotel.

Hotel du Commerce is good average class hotel in the business district of Basel, not far from congress building. However, it is at the same time about 10-15 min by walk to the city center. Or you can take tram (city pass is included in room rate). Both the hotel and the surrounding district lack charm (concrete building as well as building around), but it's comfortable. I was there for Basel carnival, which I would definetely recommend to anyone. Staff was very friendly, they speak English and French (and German, of course). They even offered us cafe when we were departing to the carnival at 3 p.m. Room is clean enough, the bathroom is large with a shower. Fancy thing: bathroom is separated from bedroom with only matt glass door, so you can see what's going inside. So, I might not recommend to stay there with collegaues, howere it depends.
