Check in was a breeze for us because our Embassy had handled everything. We were here during the NATO Summit. A very small elevator, 1 or 2 people only, luck for me I only had to climb a few stairs. The room was comfortable, I had a queen size bed and a LCD TV on the desk. Room had free wireless internet or connect via ethernet. There was also a computer station in the lobby, no privacy on it though. I couldn't get any cool air to come out of the AC unti, so I just opened the window. In room safe and mini-bar also provided. The bathroom only had a shower, toilet and sink. Only had a hand towel and bath towel supplied. Slippers and house coat were also provided with the room. The bar was open 24 hours, not sure if it is always this way or just because we were staying there. Breakfast came with the room, not a great breakfast in my opinion. Fresh squeezed O.J, but you almost had to chew the stuff! Service was great in the restaurant. There was no iron or ironing board in the room. I called the front desk and one was delivered to the room within 10 minutes. I wasn't told to only use it for 10 minutes like someone else had posted. I called the front desk when I was done to have it picked up. The price of the room was listed on the wall for around ?200, but the book showed a different price. Price was probably jacked up because of the NATO summit. I had trouble finding a bank machine that took American Express, but there is an ATM right around the corner if you don't need Amex. The television stations were great, lots of English programming. The internet was of high quality that I could make video calls without any issues.

Brand new four-star hotel near the Intercontinental on a small, quiet side-street. A very convenient location, near the Opera and most other historic buildings. Walking distance to the Lipscani historical pedestrian neighborhood. Rooms a very good size, bathrooms perfectly clean and roomy. My bathroom did not have a bathtub. Bathrobe and bedroom slippers provided, but oddly no body lotion or conditioner, and I'm not quite sure whether the dispenser in the showers were soap or shampoo. Morning breakfast includes fresh-squeezed juice, coffee, tea, selection of cold meats and smoked salmon, eggs to order. Service is kind, but not so polished. They are very good with calling you a taxi (let them do it, those charge less than the ones you hail in the street). They will also help you make reservations and whatnot. But they are not organised enough with things like train schedules (they tried to tell us there were no trains leaving Budapest for the country one weekend day -- perhaps they thought we foreigners couldn't handle travel in less than style). They are attached to a tourist office, but it wasn't open that day and maybe they aren't used to dealing with such things yet, having been open only a month. We went to the Hilton not to far away and got a great, knowledgeable private guide and driver from Jolly Tours for a very fair price (30 Euros per person for 3 hours). They were also very odd about the iron. They wouldn't lend it out for more than ten minutes. They need to keep more of them around! Our group had a conference room set up with computer kiosks, but I'm not sure whether there is a public business center normally. Internet access free in rooms but no wireless. Also there is no money-changing, although there is a bank with an ATM right around the corner. Also as of June 2007, taxis simply do not know where it is, but the hotel business card has a good map on the back and also it really is just down the street from the Intercontinental, which everyone knows. Christian, the front desk man, was just great, and sent someone to pick me up at the Intercontinental after I switched over from the Novotel nearby and wanted to go over by foot. Everyone is very friendly. The hotel was quite full when I stayed, and there were only smoking rooms left, but actually my room didn't smell a bit like smoke. It's just too new! However, hotels in Bucharest do not typically ask you whether you want smoking or nonsmoking, so you'd better request and confirm when you book and check in. The hotel restaurant is decent, but there is a restaurant just down the street that is much better. It's kind of hard to miss, it's got a nice outdoor seating area. Website is Romanian only and I did not find online booking, so I did it the old-fashioned way and simply called. The hotel photos are very accurate. This is great if you are looking for a pristine room in a great location at a good price, but not if you are looking for tons of amenities like a swimming pool and er, Kleenex. They also didn't have tissues around.

Brandneues 4-Sterne Hotel in Nähe des InterContinental auf einer kleinen und ruhigen Nebenstraße. Sehr praktische Lage, in Nähe der Oper und anderen historischen Gebäuden. Die historische Fußgängerzone/Wohngegend Lipscani läßt sich zu Fuß erreichen. Die Zimmer sind recht groß, Badezimmer super sauber und geräumig, meines hatte keine Wanne. Es werden Badeschlappen und Bademäntel zur Verfügung gestellt, komischerweise aber kein Shampoo oder Körperlotion. Ich war mir nicht ganz sicher, ob die Spender in der Dusche für Shampoo oder Seife waren. Zum Frühstück gab es frisch-gepreßten Saft, Kaffee, Tee, Aufschnitt und geräucherten Lachs, Eier konnte man sich so zubereiten lassen, wie man mochte. Der Service ist freundlich aber nicht so ganz geschliffen. Man kann dem Gast hier gut ein Taxi besorgen, lassen Sie sich das auf jeden Fall vom Hotel rufen, die berechnen weniger als die Taxen, die man sich selbst auf der Straße anhält. Man hilft einem hier auch mit Reservierungen und allem möglichen. Aber in Bezug auf Zugfahrpläne ist man nicht so organisiert - man versuchte uns zu erklären, dass man am Wochenende nicht mit dem Zug von Bukarest aus aufs Land fahren könnte - vielleicht war man auch der Meinung, dass das nichts für uns als Ausländer wäre. Dem Hotel ist eine Touristeninformation angeschlossen, die war an dem Tag allerdings geschlossen und vielleicht ist man im Hotel nicht daran gewöhnt, mit solchen Dingen umzugehen, es ist erst seit einem Monat geöffnet. Wir gingen dann zum Hilton, das war ganz in der Nähe und bekamen von Jolly Tours für nur 30 Euro pro Person für drei Stunden einen privaten Reiseleiter, der war super toll und kannte sich sehr gut aus. Mit dem Bügeleisen war man hier auch sehr eigen, für mehr als 10 Minuten wollte man uns das nicht leihen. Man müßte sich hier mehr davon anschaffen. Unsere Gruppe hatte einen Konferenzsaal mit Computern zur Verfügung gestellt bekommen, ich weiß nicht, ob es sonst ein Business Center gibt. Internet ist auf den Zimmern kostenlos, ist aber kein WiFi. Geld umtauschen kann man hier auch nicht, direkt um die Ecke befindet sich allerdings eine Bank mit Geldautomaten. Und im Juni 2007 wussten die Taxen einfach nicht, wo sich das Hotel befindet. Auf den Karten des Hotels ist aber auf der Rückseite eine sehr gute Karte und es ist wirklich nur die Straße runter vom InterContinental und das kennt wirklich jeder. Christian am Empfang war einfach super und schickte jemanden, der mich am InterContinental abholte, ich war vom Novotel dorthin umgezogen und wollte zu Fuß gehen. Alle sind sehr freundlich. Das Hotel war recht voll als ich hier war und es gab nur noch Raucherzimmer - aber mein Zimmer roch gar nicht verqualmt. Es ist dazu einfach zu neu. Wie auch immer, in Hotels in Bukarest wird man normalerweise nicht danach gefragt, ob man ein Raucher- oder Nichtraucherzimmer bevorzugen würde, so fragt man besser nach und läßt sich das bei der Buchung und beim Einchecken bestätigen. Das Hotelrestaurant ist ordentlich aber gleich die Straße runter befindet sich ein viel besseres Restaurant, das kann man nur schlecht verfehlen, draußen ist eine sehr schöne Sitzgelegenheit. Die Website ist auf rumänisch und ich konnte keine Möglichkeit finden, online zu buchen und so wählte ich die altmodische Art und griff zum Telefon. Die Hotelfotos sind akkurat. Dies ist ein tolles Hotel wenn Sie nach einem makellosen Zimmer in toller Lage zu einem guten Preis suchen aber wenn Sie auf tonneweise Annehmlichkeiten, wie z.B. Pool und so, keinen Wert legen. Es gab auch keine Taschentücher.
