We stayed at this hotel Easter 2008.
The rooms are very basic although very clean. The decor/furniture etc is very old looking and tired although its well looked after and very cleanly kept. The shower for example was open plan and not in a bathroom , only the shwoer curtain separated this from the bedroom. The walls and ceiling are also very thin , so quite noisy when people are moving about either late at night or early morning !
Breakfast was buffet style and there was a reasonable selection.
We ate at the hotel a couple of times and the food was pretty good , with the back food area being non smoking.
In terms of location , this hotel is 10 mins walk from the station.

Wonderful Stay

Stayed here for two nights while we explored the area and went to the Jungfraujoch. About as Alpine Swiss as you can get. Charming. Our room was in an older section of the hotel but was very clean and comfortable with a balcony overlooking a village square and small fountain. Advertising would have led us to believe it was an easy walk from the train station but that is not the case.......but there are regularly scheduled buses that met our needs. The only thing that would keep us from giving this a five-star rating is that to get to the hotel's (quite good) restaurant without going outside and around the building one must go through the bar and steubli which are FILLED with cigarette smoke! Unfortunately the Swiss are behind the US in designating places as non-smoking so we were particuarly offended by the smoke.
wonderful warm welcome

We have just returned from holiday in the hotel Baren , Wilderswil where we recieved the most wonderful welcome. The hotel is cosy and well run with clean warm rooms and great food. This traditional hotel has great charm and friendly helpful staff . There are comfortable sitting areas as well as a lively bar and Pizza restaurant and very family friendly. If you enjoy peace and quiet this would be an excellent choice.
The half board package , for a party of 11 ( two families with adult children) was excellent value and included for us the new years eve dinner and dance which was traditional swiss.
We were skiing and the journey from wilderswil station( 5 mins walk from the hotel) took about 20 minutes to Grindelwald but with the jungfrau regional ski pass it was a reliable journey with regular trains. If you're a serious skier you may find it too far out but for mixed groups with non-skiers it is a good location for site seeing with easy access to both the mountains and Interlaken
To top it all we had great snow and the scenery is stunning.

Room was clean and comfortable with great views up to Jungfrau and Mönch. Friendly and helpful staff in well run hotel. Busy restaurant serving great food in evenings but buffet breakfast got a bit monotonous after a week. Hotel handy for Wilderswil station, 5 minute walk, and local bus to Interlaken. Nice relaxing holiday.
