We stayed here for five nights in July 2008, while enjoying the nearby villages. We paid 230 CHF per night for bed and breakfast (no lunch or dinner).
The hotel is very nice. We had a great balcony view (Room 329) of the town square and train station with the beautiful Lauterbrunen valley and Alps in the background. The hotel's location is excellent, right off the town center and across from the train station (no noise problem and great people watching). Our room was average - a bit dated, terrible pillows. Breakfast buffet is average. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby Internet terminal is a joke (Da Sina's restaurant [10 minute walk from the hotel] offers one hour of free Internet if you purchase a drink). Plenty of restaurants in town.
Wengen is a great location for sightseeing. Lots of wonderful hiking trails (and the train) right outside the hotel.

A Wonderful Place to Stay
Guest name: moocha1, nottinghamshire
My partner and i stayed in this hotel 2 years ago, after reading a couple of reviews earlier this year we were a little nervous about staying here again. The hotel has been taken over by the Best Western chain, it is now part of a group of 3 in the village, Hotel Wengenhoff, and Belverdere, being the others. The hotel was still of the same high standard, with excellent service from the Manager and all of the staff. The food was very good. We had a very nice room which we had stayed in before and after emailing the Hotel , they located us in it again. Nothing was to much trouble. The hotel is situated in a great location with easy access to all skiing areas, and the station. Wengen is an absolutely beautiful resort extremely picturesque, lots of great places to eat and drink on the mountains. Village life in the evenings is a little quiet, but staying here is a wonderful experience. The benefit of the hotel being part of the group is great, you can eat your dinner in any of the hotel restaurants, Hotel Wengenhoff the food was fantastic. I'm sure we will return again, we had a wonderful holiday.
Nothing special

Our room was very spacious and very clean, but the funiture was pretty out-dated. The whole hotel needs a thorough renovation. The tap was dripping all night.
The view from our balcony was beautiful, but the hotel is right next to the train station, so we got a quite a bit of noise in the middle of the night (with the window open).
The staff is friendly.
Breakfast was not amazing (fruit was overly ripe, butter was warm and soft ...)
If you are looking for a beautiful place, you should look somewhere else.

Hotel Silberhorn - Good Value But Needs Updating

We spent one week in the town of Wengen during June 2007 for the sole purpose of hiking in the area and spent all our time at the Hotel Silberhorn, where we signed up for the 7 day hikers package.
The Hotel Silberhorn is well located opposite the train station and despite being in the centre of town, is actually very quiet at night once the sun goes down. It is a dated hotel and although the rooms are nicely furnished with plenty of closet space, the bathrooms are in real need of an overhaul and look like they were last renovated in the early 70s. Whilst we were there, they were updating the rooms but not the bathrooms which we thought missed the mark. The rooms facing the station appear to be the best as they have a generous sitting area – we recommend rooms 429, 420 and 431 for non smokers or their equivalent on the smoking floors.
.
We took the half board hikers package which meant we had breakfast, lunch and dinner included in our package each day. The food was pleasant and each night we were provided with a choice of three main courses. However, as everyone staying at this hotel is either English or Japanese, we missed the opportunity to interact with the Swiss and learn more about their culture. Although our package included a hiker’s lunch, this was very simple and we generally took advantage of the cafes on the mountains which had far more to offer.
The hotel has adequate facilities which include the restaurant, a caf? on the beautiful outdoor terrace looking at the mountains, guest lounge, a self service laundry and a large playground for children. There is also a computer with internet access available for a charge, but we found it more economical to use the internet caf? at the bar in town. Our TV in the room had a couple of English channels, but we felt that given most of the guests were English, a few more channels would have been appropriate..
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and went out of their way to welcome us and attend to our needs. However, our experience with other hotels we visited in Switzerland suggested to us that you are generally better off staying in a hotel that is a family owned business, rather than one like the Silberhorn which is part of the Best Western chain and therefore run by a management team. Whilst we cannot criticize the performance of the staff, we found the family owned hotels a little more personal and more informed about the area.
The town of Wengen is a car free town and is extremely picturesque with glorious views of the Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger. We had visited the town for a week last year and were so impressed we felt compelled to return. It is in the centre of the Bernese Oberland region and the excellent public transport facilities make it very accessible and an excellent base from which to explore the area. However, it is a mecca for English and Japanese tourists, so if you are looking for a truly “Swiss” experience, this may not be the area for you and we would recommend the town of Bettmeralp where we also spent a week. (See review under Chalet-Hotel Bettmerhof).
The hiking in the Wengen area is truly glorious and because of the public transport system it is easy to explore the region. Our package included the 6 day Bernese Oberland pass which provided us with 6 days of unlimited use of virtually all transport facilities in the area and is fantastic value. There are walking options for all levels of fitness and the wild flowers over the June period were extremely picturesque.
Overall, this hotel offers good value for money if you take up the 7 days hikers’ package. It is a pleasant hotel, but we will try another hotel during our next visit to Wengen to compensate for the old bathrooms and to hopefully provide us with the opportunity to interact with more Swiss guests.
