Great Get Away

My husband and I have been to this hotel a couple of times now. Pro's - not to far from suburbs of Chicago, a pleasant drive for a weekend getaway, things to do during the day, sightseeing and shopping in Dubuque and Galena, things to do at night.. dog track and Casino. We always have a great time. The hotel front desk is wonderful very accomodating friendly staff. The little cafe for breakfast is nice good food for a good price. The Houlihans restaurant is attached and is nice as well. The room was big and clean, not sure what people are complaining about this was a clean nicely laid out hotel. Con's - my husband always missed when they put fresh baked cookies out... hmm I seemed to always be walking back to the room and had one : )
If you can time the stay with the crafts in the park in galena or other events you will have a great balance of things to do.
The Casino was fun and the staff in there friendly as well. We weren't to crazy about the buffet in the dog track but we arent big buffet people.
A Pleasant Surprise!

I was reluctant to book based on the current reviews but in the end we ended up here at the Hilton for Memorial Weekend. We were so pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel was including the breakfast each morning. I do agree that the hotel has thin walls. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay. I also want to mention that the front desk staff were very friendly, professional and helpful throughout the weekend which made the stay even better. I would definately return to this hotel (which says a lot!)

This new hotel is shoddily built with the cheapest of building materials. I have stayed in dorms nicer than this place. The cheap carpets in the stairways stunk. The walls in the rooms were paper-thin. We could hear every thing going on in the rooms around us (and I mean EVERY thing). Even though the beds were supposedly state-of-the-art, the sheets felt like sandpaper. I woke up with a rash! The reservations staff was rude and short with me. I had to speak to a manager just to get a room. Then when guaranteed a river-view, I instead got a lovely view of a dog track. They had outdoor speakers going off every few minutes for the gamblers, until about 3AM. DO NOT bring your children to this hotel! Do not plan to get any rest either. The only thing we enjoyed was the whirlpool (which closed ridulously early) and our dinner at Houlihan's.

My Mom and I checked in on a Friday. We ordered a movie for $10.99,(yes$10.99) on the tv and 1/2 hour into it one of the hotel girls knocked on the door and said we have had 2 complaints and to hold it down! She treated us like we were party animals. And her attitude was awful. We were in our pajamas and in bed. The walls are paper thin. I could hear every word the guy next to us said. The price you pay for the rooms there you would expect a free danish and coffe in the morning, right? No way $5.95 is what you have to pay! The main reason I chose the hotel was for the sleep number bed. Well after we get in the room is when i had to find out that those are only in the rooms with king size beds, ridulous! If you plan on watching tv or even talking for that matter Do Not go to the Hilton, you will have a snotty girl knock on your door and treat you like a criminal.
