I was on a business trip to Portland, ME and stayed here for 3 nights in June 2008. The stay was just about O.K. Room was neat and with clean sheets but towels were a little smelly with dust. And worse I was allergic to dust and went sneezing the whole night. The staff was responsive but did not offer cookie at check-in :(. The bad thing though was that there was no gym service all through my stay, renovations :(. Passes were offered for a far-off gym. So I decided to jog. The road leading was completely dark and ran almost a shoe away from airport runway. The sound of the planes taking off and landing was horrendous and there were plenty landings. The diner and grill closed by 10pm and there is literally nothing in the next 2 mile radius, if you decide to walk outside. May be it is good for people who come in with rental cars and not airport shuttles. For people who walk like to walk around, this is a nightmare. No free breakfast for non-HHHonors members.
Good: Spacious and sunny
Bad: Dust and smelly towels, No gym
Worse: Location, No free breakfast

This HGI was $100 cheaper than it's brother downtown by the waterfront, which was reason enough to choose it. The hotel was clean and appeared new. The staff was friendly and accommodating. However when I asked the guy about the breakfast spot that everyone liked by the water he told me "IHOP." I meant Becky's but I suppose even the suggestion was something.
I'd stay here again. If you've stayed at the HGI, you've stayed at this one.

This hotel was in a great location with plenty of restaurants nearby. It also has a restaurant and room service which was nice after a business meting. Breakfast was great, there was a nice view out of my room of the mountains.

We stayed at the Hilton the first 2 nights of our trip to Maine since we got in late and the location was close to the airport. Our room was comfortable and modern and a good value for the price. The staff was great and very helpful in giving directions. We really enjoyed the Old Port area of Portland, especially the shopping and restaurants. We would probably try to stay in the Old Port if we returned, but would still recommend the Hilton for convenience to the airport.

We stayed at the Garden Inn Airport because of an early flight the next morning. The room was $190 a night after taxes which is definitely overpriced. I would recommend staying downtown Portland in the historic district for the same price and have a lot more to do within walking distance. The Portland Airport is only a few minutes from downtown and very easy to get into and out of so there is not need to book a room at the airport.
