I know the Comfort Suites has higher/better reviews than this hotel, but I was able to get a better rate via AAA in what I perceived to be a newer hotel. I'm a Hilton Honors member so I'm also a bit biased to this chain as well.
My wife and I traveled with our two children for a long sight-seeing weekend in Springfield. We arrived later than expected due to inclement weather and construction. Nevertheless, we were warmly received, with a personalized thank-you-for-staying-with-us note. Of course, HGIs are known for their cookies as well - always a good thing after hours on the road.
The room was very clean. I know this as I wore new white socks on the carpets and they still looked new after a few hours of walking sock-foot. The towels in the bathroom were amazing - super thick and plush - this is the first time I've ever noticed this little perk.
The pool area is not large, but clean and sufficient. Parking lot is clean and very brightly lit at night. Staff was extremely friendly.
We didn't eat any breakfasts there, but I did look at the breakfast and there was a broad array of food, with something for everyone at a very reasonable price of $9. Sure beat the McDonalds and IHOP breakfasts we had.
Lastly, I wanted to mention how pleasant and accommodating the assistant GM, Lacey. She directed us to D'Arcy's Pub for a late night dinner and the food and atmosphere was excellent!
Good service and great accommodations all around!

The hotel room was clean, nice, and comfortable. We had cold air conditioning and a small fridge/microwave area. This was very handy as were were traveling with a 10-month old. The room was spacious. We had plenty of room to spread out luggage, laptops, and pack n' plays. The room and hotel were quiet. There was a wedding or some kind of reception happening when we checked it, but it stayed in the reception hall mostly and didn't bother us at all.
The pool is small. It's enough room for bigger kids to splash around in but not enough room to share.
The breakfast was buffet and $9 if you bought it at the hotel, but when we booked, it was offered as the "B&B Package" so we got it for $2 a person. When we checked in they gave us passes to give to the waiter. I'm glad we did because that breakfast buffet was great! Make your own waffles, eggs cooked to order, breakfast meets, bread, fruit, yogurt cereal...we had a hard time picking what to eat!
The staff was helpful and friendly.
The location is great for getting around town by car. Reasonable distance to down town and mall. It is NOT walking distance to any historic Lincoln-type stuff, but parking downtown is not a problem, but you probably will have to pay to park.

We stayed 3 nights from April 16 -19 and are Hilton Gold members. Springfield tends to have busloads of school kids for museum or athletic events descend upon them with limited hotels in the area. On our second night, we went up to our room and had to run the gauntlet of jr high kids in the lobby, elevators, hallways. Even though we were to have one of the better rooms/floors due to our Hilton Gold stays, the hotel made no distinction and the place was mobbed with noisy kids on all floors. We figured we could put up with it one night but it happened againt the next night, too --- different bus load. Be warned, staying here is like rooming at a school cafeteria.

First time at the Hilton Garden - it was absolutely the best! The room was clean and so comfortable with it's down comforter. The pool was small but sufficient. The staff was ever so friendly. But best of all was the "mini" restaurant. They only serve breakfast and dinner, but the food was impeccable and the wait staff was very courteous and hard-working. We even appreciated the chef coming out from the back to say hello! I would not have expected that, but it happened.
Of course the best feature was the afternoon cookies at the front desk - they were even placed on a warmer so those chocolate chips melted in your mouth!
Our family will definately go back!
