Stayed here from April 26th to May 1st.
Hotel has a great open plan lobby, lounge area with restaurants leading off it. We used the lobby bar every night and found the service to be excellent.
There are three restaurants, 1 on the roof, and two at ground level. We used the island restaurant at ground level and were so impressed with the food and service did not try the other two restaurants.
When the hotel has a large tour part going through it, the island restaurant puts on a buffet. This buffet was superb. It had great Thai dishes, western food, a sushi bar and the most fabulous selection of desserts. The buffet costs 500 baht (?8.00) per person which we found to be outstanding value for money.
The hotel has a large pool with a pool bar off it which serves drinks and food. The staff were great here and would be over in a flash if you needed anything.
There is no free internet service at the hotel even if you take your own lab top. You pay about 120 baht (?2.00) for thirty mins.
I used the laundry service and everything came back very quickly and very clean.
The rooms were very clean and well presented, just a little dated for a modern 5 star.
One thing to consider when booking a room is; if you choose for the more expensive river view room you will have a fabulous view, however you may also be woken up at 7.00am by a long tail boat letting rip with the gas.
Overal we enjoyed our stay and were made to feel very welcome.

Our stay at the Dusit Island Resort showed a hotel which certainly could be better if they tried. The grounds are very nice along with the pool area. The rooms were somewhat tired looking. As the hotel is about 15 minutes walking into town they do furnish a shuttle bus and Charge For It!! Our package did include free shuttle, (only at night), but otherwise you do pay for what should be a free service due to the location. We could not get a package with included breakfast (For Americans -No, but English we spoke to had it included.) We were not about to pay for a breakfast at an inflated price (not worth it) and chose to walk into town to a coffee shop. this is a Dusit hotel which left a sour taste in our mouth. Richard

This Dusit shows it's age, it's just OK. There location is fine and it's cool to be able to see the river but the hotel has a kind of "I don't care" attitude. Not ideal if you are on vacation.

My parents and I stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time. The staff were lovely, the food was amazing, the location is gorgeous and the swimming pools are out of this world. Chiang Rai is a very nice town and this hotel was in a perfect spot - right by the river with longtail boats going by all day, and only a 5 minute tuk-tuk ride into town. Would definitely stay here again.
