We arrived in Stockholm by car to stay for 3 nights without having booked any accommodation and did so via the main tourist office. We had several options and the First Hotel Reisen had the best location and we were getting a discounted price so we went for it, even though it was still a bit more than we had intended to pay.
The standard double room was comfortable, clean and nicely decorated although small for the price, in my view. The staff were very helpful on check in and helped us store our enormous amount of luggage in a room off reception while our room was prepared (it was late morning). We were quoted a price for off-site parking which was steep but it was either that or move the car every day so we went with it.
We enjoyed our stay on the whole as the location was fantastic and the views glorious. We loved Stockholm and had a great time. We enjoyed the breakfasts at the hotel and used the sauna and plunge pool several times.
On check out the agreed price for the off-site parking was increased by another third which I was most unhappy about. I stated the price I had been quoted at check in but I had to really push things to get any joy and we agreed a middle ground in the end. However, considering we had already been pushing the boat out by staying there in the first place, I found this disappointing.

Lovely hotel, but why stay in Gamla Stan?

This really is a lovely hotel. The reception staff were very professional, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast buffet is awesome!! Our rooms had sea views which were spectacular. Room toiletries were simply lovely. Biggest complaint would be the location- Gamla Stan. If you buy the Stockholm card you won't be able to take the ferry at the tip of Gamla Stan to Djurgarden for free (which we found out too late). The Gamla Stan area has lost most of it's old world charm and has become one cobblestoned street after the other of honky tonk t-shirt and tourist junk shops, and tourists. For the same money, I'd stay elsewhere. Perhaps in Normalm, or the Grand Hotel (if its an incredible sea view you crave). By the way, the smorgasbord buffet at the Grand Hotel is not to be missed, and the Ice Bar is something you have to do too. The only original store we found in Gamla Stan was Trolls and Tomtars- adorable!

Spent one night on business. Excellent location. Modest sized bedroom and small en-suite but good view of the water (but beware road noise if you are a light sleeper); chipped furniture unrepaired. Main breakfast / dining room has fine view of the road. Good breakfast but hot food was only warm. Parts of the hotel have character but unless you are desperate for a bedroom with a sea view, a Sheraton or Radisson is better value for money.

We had a lovely attic room with a water view for a very reasonable price . Very comfortable bed & good bathroom . Check in staff were friendly & helpfull , & the breakfast buffet was fabulous. So much nicer & with more character than the big hotels in Stockholm , such as Grand , Sheraton , Strand or Hilton . Only wish we could have stayed longer.

This hotel was booked for me by a business associate.
The building overlooks the waterfront with ferries coming and going, and is adjacent to the Royal Palace. Immediately behind the hotel is the charming Old City with 17th C buildings, shops, churches on narrow cobblestone streets. Nearby is a ferry to the Vasa Museum.
The room itself was comfortably furnished and nicely decorated with nice bathroom, and typical Scandinavian oiled wood floors, otherwise unremarkable.
The included breakfast was an OK spread of Euro-typical hot and cold items, nothing spectacular but very serviceable.
The rate was a bit of a shocker at about USD350 per night, but you can't beat the location!
