Stayed here at front end of a Caravan Tour and was very pleased. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel and grounds was very impressive. Best thing was the buffet restaurant, which we enjoyed for two breakfasts and two dinners. The food selection was very broad, including both typical Costa Rican dishes and international cuisine. Service at the hotel was first rate during our stay. There is an internet cafe on-site for $5 per 30 minutes. I should point out that the location of the hotel is in a suburb of San Jose and is not within walking distance of the downtown area. Taxis are required to go anywhere.

Upon arrival to the hotel, we were gladly told that the hotel was full!!! Even if the night was already paid for and we had a confirmed reservation!, there was nothing to do. We were not the only ones and everyone was quite upset about the situation. We were transferred to another Barcelo hotel (Rincon del Valle) which was OK but no pool, no bar, no gardens, no alchool at the restaurant and the bar, and the hotel is location is quite bad..To compensate they gave us a free dinner, but we did not really enjoy the restaurant there. So not a really good experience!

Hotel is located in relative proximity to SJO airport and for a fee of $20 you can conveniently catch a cab. Although the hotel advertises a free, set schedule shuttle service from the airport, the wait of 2 and a half hours was unacceptable to me after a long trip. Hotel has a couple of restaurants with decent but overpriced food, a good bar with live music and a cover charge, a perpetually empty casino and sluggish, impersonal poolside service. Service as a whole leaves a lot to be desired for the claim of caliber of this hotel. I have had more pleasant wait times in my dentist's office compared to the wait for check in/out at the front desk. Hotel rooms are spacious, well decorated and clean. One has to speak fluent Spanish to get room service, which has expensive good food. There is an exercise room with sauna and steam room - all unremarkable. On the way to the very well kept pool you will find a manicured, petite tropical garden. The pool, without doubt, is this hotels most notable feature. Overall, I will consider staying at this hotel again. Really hope they hire motivated staff by that time.
