We stayed at Hintlesham last weekend and i was a bit worried given some of the negative feedback on here but overall we had a really nice time. We got a good rate from a website which included dinner (& breakfast). Food wise the hotel is excellent dinner was a lovely experience and Breakfast was great too. We also had lunch which wasn't included and i found it reasonably priced and enjoyable. The hotel rooms/ corridors might be a bit "tired" but there is nothing wrong with them and they are really big (i saw two rooms). The dining/ lounge areas are gorgeous from an "old English house" perspective. Staff were helpful and friendly. For some reason the main bar didn't seem to be permanently staffed but there was always someone closeby to either take an order or get the right person. This hotel is not 5 star luxury but it makes for a really nice weekend somewhere a bit "grand"- in my opinion.

From start to finish nothing was too much trouble!
We had a spacious room and the bathroom had been recently refurbished to a high standard. The shower was Huge and there was a rolltop bath in the main bedroom.
The highlight of our stay was dinner in the parlour, a very intimate dining room with lovely wood panelled walls. Service was excellent and the wine list was extensive and surprisingly modestly priced.
There was a function in the hotel but we were notified of this when booking and we were not affected by this at all (we had chosen a room that was not in the main building - Gallery).
All in all a fabulous break!

Not a great experience to be honest. Firstly, the room was nice - not in the main house but spacious enough. The shower however was a dribble which you could not really wash with but that was the only complaint about the room.
The service leaves a bit to be desired for the money paid though.
The lunch menu is expensive (c.?15 for a meal) but that is cheap compared to the ridiculously priced dinner. 3 small scallops set me back ?12 before a bland piece of trout cost a further ?24. A very small pudding was ?9 so overall I spent ?45 to feel hungry. Wine list is excellent however. The other thing is that jackets need to be worn at dinner - I forgot mine - they didn’t make a fuss to be fair to them but insisted that I put a jacket (which they supplied) on the back of my chair. Ridiculous. And this is where the hotel lets itself down. Ok, you know the costs before you go, but the atmosphere is overly stiff and its very difficult to relax. It was more like a SAGA holiday than a relaxing break.
The whole stay was forgettable and not staying in the main hotel was thanking my lucky stars it wasn’t raining.
Far better options to be had for the top dollar price.

Very Disappointing

Yes, this place has certainly gone downhill. When we last stayed, we couldn't fault it. Our return this year was a disaster: abysmal service, poor food and the atmosphere was unfriendly to say the least. We certainly wouldn't recommend Hintlesham Hall.

Having had my wedding at this Hotel, we couldn't fault the wedding co-ordinators and the waiting staff. However, the management of the hotel is very poor as is their customer service. We were overcharged by ?300 on our bill and it took nearly a month to get a refund, we weren't assisted with our luggage either on arrival or the following day and the attitude of the management appeared one of indifference. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and returned there for my mothers 75th birthday only to have a disco happening in the room next door. It was like sitting on top of a night club - not something you expect when you pay these sort of prices. I must say though that the food although very expensive is wonderful. The choice was somewhat limited but once arrived it was exquisite. My advice would be check what else is happening at the hotel when you book and be prepared for problems.
