We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites Hotel from April 16 - 25. We got a one bedroom suite and have 3 children under the age of 7. The price was great! I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews here but I must say this hotel definitely lived up to our expectations.
The only "problem" we had was the lady who checked us in was a bit rude. I did mention this website to her though and she became instantly nicer!
The room was a good size. The kids slept on the sofa bed which was not comfortable at all until we took the mattress out and put it on the floor to get it to lie flat. The sofa is just very old and worn and those springs would not have been comfortable to sleep on! The furniture is all dated and could use an update but we were hardly in the room so it did not bother us. The one thing in the room that was very gross was the bathtub. It was dirty and stained and definitely needs to be replaced.
The breakfast each morning was excellent and very well re-stocked. They were constantly replenishing everything and there was a large variety of food.
The people at the fronty desk greeted my kids every day with a huge smile and a warm hello and were helpful anytime we had questions or needed anything.
My huisband used the exercise room and said there were a variety of machines and it was well kept.
We did go to the grocery store and cooked in the room on a few days. One thing I did not realize was there is no oven in the room. We bought something that needed to be cooked in the oven and when we realized it, the front desk told us to bring it down and they cooked it for us in their kitchen! The housekeeping did a great job cleaning our kitchen every day for us as well.
The location is great as its super easy to get right on the freeway and get to where you need to go. It is close to everything. We felt safe the entire time we were there.
Overall we were very pleased with this hotel and would definitely stay again if we're in the area. It is not a place you'd want to go if you plan to spend most of your time relaxing in the hotel but if you need a place to eat, shower and sleep this is it!

This is great place though not "POSH"...Recently stayed here for 7 days... Suite rooms are absolutely HUGE. You feel more like you are in an apartment rather than a hotel. Kitchen area is wonderful with frig-range top-microwave & dishwasher. Bathroom is large but only has single sink area. Hotel was extremely quiet plus nice views of the "Hills". Complimentary breakfast is awesome. Buffet style with great variety=eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuitsgravy, potatoes, waffles, cereals, pastries, fresh fruits & much more!! Hotel staff were some of the nicest I have met during my travels. But Guest Attendent Robert Sander stands out above all-this gentlemen is a "GEM". You won't be able not to fall in love with Robert!! Great restaurant within walking distance called "The Valley Kitchen"-good homestyle cooking & great prices. There is mall area within 5-10 min. drive where you can find a Target store. Here we bought mutli grocery products at great prices.

We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites San Diego March 14-16 (2 nights). We arrived at night and had no problems finding the hotel. Check in was quick and easy. We were assigned a room on the third floor. Parking is free and there was plenty. We went up the elevator to the third floor and then we had to go outside to get to our room. That was a little weird as we weren't used that, but it was OK. It was sort of more motel like than actual hotel like. Our room was decent in size. We had a 1 bdrm suite. Upon entering the room you are in the bedroom with the 1 queen bed. Right next to the bedroom is the small kitchenette and bathroom. And then there was a large living room area. The rooms were comfortable. It could use some updating and modernizing as it felt a little old and you could see some wear and tear in the furniture.
Breakfast was good as there was a decent selection and hot breakfast items like sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, eggs, potatoes. There was also yogurt, english muffins, muffins, toast, cereal, bananas, apples, juice, milk, and coffee. There was also a waffle maker. My only complaint is that the breakfast room was small. It could only seat 16 people inside. There is also outside seating, but since it rained the night before we couldn't sit outside.
Overall, the hotel was decent. I would recommend the hotel to others looking for a place to stay. There wasn't much freeway noise since the hotel was located on the hill away from the freeway.

We had 3 adults and 1 child staying at the Hawthorne and the experience was wonderful.
Our check in was competent & friendly, the day before Thanksgiving.
Throughout the stay, the manager (Robert) gave us directions, information and a cheerful smile. The room was clean and HUGE, enough room for a 6-year old to stretch out! The biggest plus was 2 TVs so one could be playing cartoons or movie and the other one had football.
This Inn is located centrally so we had very little travel time to Balboa, Midway and the Museums.
I love it and will stay again.

Beware Ifyou Cancel Reservations

My family and I were planning on staying here during Thanksgiving weekend, but plans changed so we canceled our reservations. Monday after Thanksgiving we reviewed our account and saw a charge for a nights stay at the Hawthorne Suites, they charged us for a night even after we had cancelled it. Luckily I had canceled on line because I had a cancellation number. I called Hawthorne Suites and the guy told myself and my mom that the code had been input wrong and that it wasn't showing canceled, but since we had a cancellation number then he would reverse the charges. My whole family has had to call and also call there credit card company to dispute the charges.
Please beware if you plan on staying here to make sure if you cancel your reservation that you do it online and keep a record of it or better yet not stay here. They are hoping that no one would catch on to what they are doing.
