This is a large hotel at the end of a retail estate, and as such is poorly located for San Luis Obispo town centre. It also backs onto the Freeway and our corner room was very noisy with road, air con, and vending machine all disturbing us. We also expected two beds rather than 1 plus sofa bed so were further dissapointed. If it had been more than a 1 night stay i would have asked to be moved.
On a positive note the breakfast was good and the free drink reception was also appreciated.

Took at road trip up the coast, stopped one night here while visiting Hearst Castle. It wasn't my favorite Embassy Suites on the way, I would have rather stayed in the Madonna Inn nearby which is an *experience* but I travel mainly on hotel points, so Hilton and Starwood hotels are my mainstay.
It's quite a bit off the road - if I hadn't read the reviews telling me it was way back in a shopping center, I'd have been worried trying to find it. It's behind a tire store and Applebee's, odd location for an ES - basically a strip mall type place. Nothing really out of the ordinary, everything always looks the same at all ES. Good service, good breakfast, nice 2 room suite.
I do see a great deal for those willing to sit through a timeshare presentation - 2 nights here + $100 Visa gift card for $159 in exchange for sitting through the presentation. Since that's my backup method for funding vacations, I'll be using that my next trip up the coast.

My wife and I spent four days at the Embassy Suites and enjoyed everything about the stay. It is ideally located just off the freeway at the rear of a shopping center. Car trips to San Simeon and the Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, the Paso Robles wineries, and points south were all easily reached in an hour or so. The town of San Luis Obispo is just minutes away and is a delight to walk around. With so much to do the hotel was a great resting place after a day of sightseeing. The daily breakfast buffet was filling and the evening manager's reception served hard liquor as well as the usual beer and wine. The snacks were the same each night and not particularly imaginative--unshelled peanuts, popcorn, veggies, and nachos. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. We will return at some point as there are another 50 or so wineries still to visit!

The hotel, although just like any Embassy Suites, is really comfy and clean and we were even upgraded because we mentioned we were on honeymoon. We were welcomed with a managers reception which allowed us a couple of free drinks each. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. If you're going to San Luis Obispo make sure you stay over on a Thursday and head into the town for the farmers market for food stalls and a great atmosphere! Although nothing particularly special this is a really comfortable hotel for a stop over.

Traveling to sfo n decided to break the drive by relaxing in slo. Arrived after 6 pm but in time for manager's reception. Got fountain drinks and for free but did tip bar tender who had inclination to say "my man" after all transactions ie., "you got it my man." or "you bet my man." Reception had nachos, pop corn, nuts, and mixed chex(?). My Lakers were on the flat screen thoughout and getting schooled but since this place was so relaxing that I didn't care. This place was so welcoming. Various places to shop n eat within walking distance and when I say walking I mean it since walking isn't one of fav pastimes. Boarders books, Sears, the always present surf shop, Taco Bell, Apple Bees ( eating good in da neighborhood),sushi. And these are the ones I walked to. If I were more into walking more than 1 block I could have really hiked toward downtown were other tourists have informed me of other establishments. The hotel lobby is light and airy and a good place to read, relax, and people watch.
The hotel personnel were all friendly and helpful. Room I got was a 2 room suite w/ 2 queens, beds that is and a sofa bed which was a pull out bed if needed. There was a wired internet connection which was helpful. There's also wireless connection if needed but I never use these simply for general computer security. I also never use my cell phone when having to give out any personnal info. My room also had a small balcony. There is no smoking in this facility so smokers have to step outside in order to inhale cancer. Hotel is also next to the freeway but I didn't hear it. Hotel lobby serves as a gathering place but the noise stopped at 11pm. The noise was happy not alcohol induced. Which is number one on my complaint list.
They have new gym equipment that is better that 24 hr fatness w/ 2 eliptical machines, 2 treadmills, 1 recumbent bike, fresh towels, water, indoor pool with jacuzzi. The breakfast was worth the trip. Made to order omletts, fresh juice, coffee, fruits, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal. I can"t even name it all. By the way some of the guests never tipped the cooks or the busers. Guys if you won't at least clean up after yourselves.
Parking was free. And shuttle to airport I presume though I never used it. By the way the general manager who's name I never got was very helpful securing me a saturday stay even though no room was available via all web sights.
By the way I've learned through some travel agents to use the official hotel web site instead of 3rd party sites, like exp., travelo.,orb. especially if you have a request like staying at near the pool et al. So now I have to ask why this hotel is #8 in slo? The hotels 1-7 must be awesome cause my stay was great.
