Having read some pretty iffy reviews about the Executive Inn I was a little concerned about having to stay here, even if it was only for one night as part of a tour.
However, things were not as bad as I feared. The public areas were pleasant, and our room, though not massive, was perfectly adequate and the bathroom was clean and well equipped.
The restaurant was not open for dinner, but we were served food in the bar which I would highly recommend for friendly and efficient service at a reasonable price.
We did get in the restaurant for breakfast and again were impressed by the quality and price of the food and the quick service.
The hotel's location leaves much to be desired, but as it was only a place to lay our heads for one night on the long journey between Vancouver and Jasper this was not really an issue.

On the Rocky Mountaineer trip, you get what you are given for the one night hotel stopover in Kamloops. Mine was the basic trip, Red Leaf Service, and the Executive Inn was the allotted hotel. Utter chaos on arrival - a couple of hundred people arriving at the same time that a couple of hundred more were milling about waiting to go off to the dinner cabaret elsewhere. Only 2 people on reception and only 2 very small elevators. Many of us decided to use the stairs.
Room was very pleasant, well equipped, and despite noise from the busy little elevators, I had a good night. Breakfast was on the train, not in the hotel.
Desolate place! The huge LONDON DRUG MART behind the hotel is open until 9pm, and is very useful - snacks, batteries, DVD's, first aid, toiletries etc., etc., There are a couple of nearby restaurants; one steak house type and one Chinese (which smelled of fish, so I walked out). I couldn't get into the hotel restaurant, but was served food in the bar by the fastest, most hard-working waitress I've ever seen. The seafood chowder was great, I recommend it.

We stayed for one night in a double queen room, on the quiet side building (the opposite side from Victoria Street).
Although the hotel was full and was hosting two functions that evening, check-in was quick and we were in our room in no time.
The 4th floor room itself was of a good quality: old but spacious and clean with comfortable beds and with a good sized bathroom. The view was over the rear car park with the mountains in the distance (lying on the bed, all you could see was the mountains).
Whilst you couldn't hear noise from the functions themselves, many of the guests were staying at the hotel which, coupled with the thin room doors, meant we subjected to quite a bit of noise throughout the night as people returned to their rooms, talking loudly and slamming doors.
Without the noise issues, I would probably have given this hotel a 4.
