Fort Homestead

If you can get this hotel for the right price, it's an excellent deal for this area! I paid $50 a night on Hotwire (hint- it's the only 2 star property in Norwalk at this time that sports a cook pot symbol)
My favorte thing about this hotel is it's location- when you turn off Main St at the Homestead sign, you are lead up a winding hill; the hotel is perched up at the very top, overlooking the Meritt Parkway like an old fort, keeping an eye out for pirates.
Homestead hotels are an extended stay type property, with small, full kitchens including full size refrigerators. And like most of this genre of hotel, housekeeping is not done on a daily basis, so you'll have to (gasp!) make your own bed and if you throw your wet towel on the floor, it will stay there until you pick it up.
There are plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, and generic shopping nearby, including a Wild Oats grocery store, and a huge crazy grocery store that bills itself as Ripley's Believe it or NOT's largest dairy.
For the money, disappointed

For the money I paid I was dissipointed with the hotel. Yeah, the rooms is just a tad larger than most, and the location is great (near highways, places to eat, etc), but it had its problems. My room and the hallways had a weird smell. Don't know what it was, just a funky, musty smell that was there my whole stay. The dishes in the room were kinda dirty and the back entrance had glass in the walkway, even after I told the front desk. Other than soap, and towels, your on your own for shampoo and lotion. I could never figure out the thermastat in the room. It was either too hot or too cold.
Overall, it was ok, but definatly not worth the money. I stayed here because they allowed pets, but if I was in the area again, I'd look somewhere else.
Nice place except

I stayed at this hotel October 2004. I was concerned as the only reviews I found were negative but since I travel with pets, I had no choice but to try it. The hotel did not have a pool but I did see an exercise room which I don't remember seeing in anything I read. The employees were average with my only concern being communication as the some of the employees did not speak or understand English although they did try. I have stayed in extended stay hotels before where there were some things provided. This hotel only provided coffee and soap. My only major problem was that they did not vaccuum the floors or pick up items that were on the floors. I would stay here again only because I don't have a choice due to my pets. For the price we paid, I was a little disappointed.
