Not as bad as it could be

First off, I stay at a lot of Extended Stay Hotels. Crossland is the lower end of these and the price reflects that. But, you get a lot for your money.
Also, I live in Tucson, know the city well, and can make informed decisions on the city's hotels.
This particular hotel is in a somewhat desolate area, but it's not overly bad. It's close to a supermarket (Fry's) and is next door to a Wendy's, but there's really nothing in the way of restaurants in that area. It's very easy to get around, but, per what I guess is ESH protocol, it's just off the main road on a side street.
ESHs all have hard beds (especially hard at Crosslands) and NONE provide toiletries except for soap. The office has limited hours, it's short-staffed and the staff is usually fairly surly, and the housekeeping is once a week. But you're not paying for a real hotel; you're paying for Crossland. If you want something slightly better, there's an Extended Stay America in town as well.
With that said, this is actually one of the better Crosslands I've stayed at. Knowing what sort of people typically frequent weekly rate hotels in Tucson, I expected meth addicts, violent domestic disputes, drugs, guns and all sorts of fun stuff. None of that happened. There are some weird characters staying there, but I had no problems whatsoever.
So, just keep in mind that you have to hold ESH to different standards completely separate of other hotels, but you're not going to get anything better for $30/night in Tucson. So, the 4* on here is probably due to my expectations for this place being so low. But it is a well-maintained property and the room was clean, quiet and it served me well.
Oh, and, if you really think this is the worst hotel in Tucson, drive down Benson Highway, South Sixth Avenue or Miracle Mile the next time you come. Maybe even check into one of those places just to get a real sense of what a truly awful motel is.
Worst in Tucson - stay anywhere but here!

Worst hotel in Tucson. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. Booked this hotel FOUR months in advance, for my parents' visit hoping for a more comfortable room than the average hotel offers. Booked two queen sized beds, got two doubles. Dingy room, the kitchenette is a joke, but the worst was how they embarrassed my father. They kept insisting that his card had been rejected. The Crossland branch manager was no help, snidely implying that it was probably his own fault. We thought perhaps his bank had put a fraud alert hold on the card because he was using it overseas, even though he had cleared this with them before traveling. However this obviously wasn't the case as local restaurants/stores had no trouble with the card. Crossland staff continued to act as though this was my father's fault. Turns out his overseas credit card requires that the 3 digit CV2 code is entered for all charges, hardly unique but Crossland's crummy computer system has no way to enter the code! Manager Carolyn tried her best to fix the problem but after 2 fruitless hours we gave up. The bill was charged to my US credit card instead. Worst of all, for their final night we booked my parents into La Quinta near the airport ... twice as nice, cheaper, and frankly I wish I'd booked them in there for their entire stay!

BAD: Roaches, extra-hard creaky bed, no toiletries, no wake-up calls, broken light, filthy carpet, waited in the cold at 1:30am for 20 min to get into locked lobby (to check in), English is a foreign language for all staff I talked to, locked out of my room the second night, rattling heater fan.
GOOD: Relatively quiet, easy freeway access.
Schlecht, schlecht, schlecht

The room was clean I have no complaints there, but I booked a room online with two queen beds, when we checked in they gave me one bed I complained to the management because I had my kids with me, and I needed two beds, it was the busy season so I could not find another hotel with rooms. They could not give me a room with two beds, but while I was in the lobby a woman walked in without a reservation and they gave her two beds, I was shocked . we had to stay there, one of us ended up sleeping on the floor, and that one of us got sick!!!
The management was rude and awful . will never stay there again.
