I have to say that I really enjoyed Sara Houston's contribution in relation to this Hotel, it really is an appalling seedy joint and overpriced to boot!
I do not recommend using the lift as we got stuck in this miniscule capsule which reminded me of what poor Buzz Aldrin had to endure on his return back to earth from his trip to the moon. We were in there for 40 mnutes and there was four of us. In hindsight, in some ways I would have preferred to have stayed in the lift for the night as it was a damn site cleaner than my bedroom.
If you are into stickiness and stain well, this is the place to come(!) Lovely brown tiles on the bathroom floor with stained filthy grouting. Make sure you bring your slippers for the carpet as this is has a blend of stick, tack and crisp - you could maybe include it in the next Rice Krispee add.
The shower experience is also something special - not made for people who are a size 8 or larger, my advice is to walk in sideways - the water sprinkles out of the shower head (definitely pre-1960 fittings), a helpless dribble.
I asked for a no smoking room - well, there was no one smoking in my room, I have to say, but the smoke from my neighbours bedroom wafted through my bedroom - I woke up in a cloud of second hand musty smoke - revolting.
Breakfast - what do you think ? I came down the stairs instead of the lift. The lady that looks after the breakfast room and provides the coffee is like someone who is still mourning the passing of Marie Antoinette. Tragedy, will not perform unless she is asked to - she supplies the watery coffee obviously made from Marie Antoinettes ashes. The rest of the fare? Unless it is stamped with a sell by date do not touch.
The chappy in reception needs to get a personality! Maybe he is overworked by the boss.
Please Mr. Owner read this review. Do all of us a favour, close the dump and put us out of our misery. You have no idea of how to run a hotel. The quality of your hotel is being misrepresented on the Web.

A Royal Flophouse!!

THIS IS NOT A HOTEL-- It is at best a Parisian flophouse. The Royal St. Germaine Flophouse is located on a VERY NOISY THOROUGHFARE, so if you hope to get any sleep while in Paris, avoid this place at all costs. When I arrived, there was absolutely no one to assist me with dragging and pulling my luggage through the NON-Automatic entry doors. Once inside the flophouse's dark small foyer, I had to stand in line behind 5 other people and their mounds of luggage while they tried to check in. As with the entry doors, check-in at this place was not automated either. Each guest is given a lengthy form that they have to fill out along with their credit card info. It took well over 40 minutes just to get checked in. I requested a room on the backside of the hotel to avoid the eardrum shattering street noise and I was told "the windows are double paned and after one night you will get used to it." Then, came the fun part!! Trying to fit myself and my luggage inside an elevator so small that it became crowded if more than one person was on it. After extruding myself and my luggage from the elevator, I opened the door to what was the filthiest, grossest excuse for a hotel room that I have ever encountered. This place makes a U.S. Motel 6 look like a 5-star hotel. There was no clock , no black out curtains and the bed, carpet and bathroom were disgustingly dirty. And the bedspread--was absolutely indescribably dirty. The mattress--well, I won't even go there!! The noise level from the street below was absolutely incredible. Thankfully, I travel with a blindfold and earplugs. The t.v. had a 12 inch screen and was so old that it reminded me of something I had in college over 20 years ago. The telephone was techologically backwards as well. I picked it up and dialed zero for the front desk so I could get instructions on how to work the a/c controls. No one ever answered so I was forced to use my cell phone to call the front desk. I was then informed that I had to dial 9 to get the front desk. Gee, I guess it would have been too much trouble to have posted some directions to this effect. The bathroom shower was a 30 inch by 30 inch square stall that almost severed one of my breasts when I attempted to get out of it. Also, this hotel turns off the a/c when you leave necessitating another phone call to the front desk upon your return to your room. The fact that Paris was hosting a rugby tournament along with a major retail show made it impossible to locate another hotel. Also, if you need a key to the room safe, you have to put up a 50 euros deposit!! One would have to hold a gun to my head, before I would ever in my wildest dreams recommend this awful, repugnant place.

Needed to book a hotel last minute and this one appeared to be in a good location. Down the road from lots of shops, few bars, restaurants, but not as noisy as St Michel.
Unfortunately, we paid far too much 160 euros, for the standard of hotel. It was okay, nothing special and in some parts bad.
Food was left in the mini bar from previous occupants. Don't know how long it had been left there.
Bedding was crumpled, maid was rather careless.
Hotel quite worn, and little space, but i could live with that.
What was annoying was that if someone was watching tv, you could hear it clearly in your room. So you couldn't sleep until they switched it off.
Lots of better hotels to stay at. Spend your money on something else..

Nice 3 star hotel

As is typical with a Paris 3 star hotel the rooms are small, by that standard this one had a huge bathroom. Has internet access, need a cord as it isn't wireless access but there is a jack in the room. Approximately 20 cable channels on the TV (at least CNN International and MTV in English).
Unlike many small European hotels, this one has electronic locks. I feel this is more secure than the usual practice of leaving your key at the desk when you are out.
We paid an average of about 130 Euros per night for 3 nights (Friday night had a higher rate). Our rate did NOT include breakfast and we never paid the extra 12 euros each for breakfast at the hotel. Near the Metro (and RER), several bus routes run down the street.
Nearby (within a few blocks) eating places were average, being Paris you don't need to go far to get something really good.

I spent 3 nights in Royal St. Germain, from 9th to 12th of May. For 85 euros/night, I was very pleased with the hotel, given the nice and central location. The room was actually a double, although I had booked for a single person. It was clean, nicely furnished, in the 6th floor with French balconies to the street. The bathroom was good too, recently renovated and with a good shower.
What I didn't like was the quite poor sound insulation of the room: street noises woke me up at nights (Rue de Rennes is quite a busy street) as did conversation from the neighbour room (!).
Breakfast was not included in my booking, but I tried it anyway, although I found it quite expensive for 12 euros. The breakfast was ok, but not very generous.
The hotel staff was very helpful, polite and spoke good enough English. For the same price, I would definetely go again.
