I live in a small town about 2 1/2hrs away and usually stay in a downtown hotel when I vist Charleston for a taste of the city life. However, my trip this past weekend was being paid for by my 74yo Mother who needed me to drive her to the Port for a cruise. Thus, I needed to find an affordable place but yet up to her standards.
I am very happy to share that StudioPlus in North Charleston exceeded what I was looking for. I had never stayed at an extended stay property before so I did not know what to expect.
The customer service is worth it's weight in GOLD. I never once felt like I was an inconvience to them or that they were too busy to take time to help me.
We did not have any safety issues at all so I don't understand previous reviews. You need your card to enter the exterior doors other than the lobby and it was well lit. We sat outside at night in our camp chairs and never saw anyone that did not belong. It is situated right in front of The Clarion so it is not in a bad area at all. There are all kind of restaurants & shopping nearby including a SuperWalMart.
We stayed in a Deluxe Suite (Room 201). It was spacious, clean & obviously taken care of. It had a Queen Bed, a livingroom area with a pull out sofabed & dining table as well as a equipped kitchen. The bed was very comfortable and provided a good nights sleep. There was alot of storage space with a large dresser & good size closet for clothes in the "Foyer" area as well as counter space & cabinets in the kitchen. The air conditioner worked great but think it would be better if it was more in the living room area. The only other furniture changes I would make is with the TV set up. It was a little awkward trying to watch it from both areas. Oh, I almost forgot... I called the desk to ask for dish soap to clean our dishes before we checked out and was delighted to learn that they had said but I didn't need it - They take care of that!
I plan to stay here again this weekend when I pick Mom up and I am looking forward to it! If you decide to try it you will not be sorry & tell Felita we said hello! She's the nicest clery you will ever meet!

We booked a room at this hotel only to find out that the room had not been cleaned and found things in the room that were not supposed to be there...we were then transferred to another room that was somewhat clean. Then in the early morning hours my husband and I had to call the front desk for security to come up and make two to three drunks away from our door. They were kicking and using all their strength to try and beat down the door and saying remarks like "when we get in we are going to kill you".Security finally did come up and told us to go back to sleep and we should be used to men being drunk.and I told them we were not used to it because we don't drink.Security said for us to go back to sleep ....we did not sleep one minute after that. When the break of day started we left that hotel and will never go back !!!People were hanging around inside the hotel that you wouldn't want to meet in a dark street or alley let alone a motel! If you need to stay in a hotel be safe and go into Charleston and Do Not go into North Charleston at all and heaven forbid you should take a wrong turn.Be safe rather than sorry. It loooks clean and nice on the outside but don't let that fool you...and the staff are not friendly at all!!!

This is an extended stay hotel and the hotel description clearly states there is room service once weekly unless requested otherwise.
This hotel is walking distance to many restaurants, an ice skating rink, and mall.
The kitchenette was just the right size for us and made our stay more enjoyable as we could cook and not have to eat out all the time.
The drive to downtown Charleston or the Charleston beaches is about 15 minutes, which was worth it to me as the cost of this hotel versus ones closer to tourist attractions was less than half but with double the amenities.
I have seen some negative feedback regarding the hallways smelling of cigarette smoke. It does, but, if you have a chain smoker puffing away non-stop in a few rooms, it's going to happen. Be realistic. What can management do about smokers who don't open windows and smoke like freight trains where there is no ventilation?
I also saw another review about, "I found hair." I've found a stray hair in every hotel I've stayed in across the US.
But, one note to management for a needs improvement...check the bottom of the toilets and the bottom of the bathtub.
That part was obvious to me that housekeeping blew this off as an "out of eyesight" cleaning area. Unfortunately, this is one of the least sanitary areas that people have a tendency not to notice. It would be worthwhile for management to inspect the hidden areas during slow periods to see what is being missed.
Other than that, we truly loved our room and enjoyed the area tremendously. Give it a try.

Better than expected

WE had not expected much at this hotel due to previous negative postings , however we were very pleasantly surprised at how clean it was.Granted it is an older building but the kitchen and bath room have been updated and every thing sparkled in our room [number 104].
The bed linens and towels were of new appearance and there was a change of towels in the bath room cabinet, because the hotel is self catering they are not changed every day unless you pay extra for that service. For the two nights that we were there it was fine
The hotel was also close to many restaurants and shopping but about a ten minute drive to Charleston.
Good place for families who want to cater for them selves, there is a stove, micro wave, fridge and coffee maker in the kitchen,No hair dryer in the bath room though.
On the whole this hotel is good value compared to the cost of most of the hotels in the Charleston area.

Got a good deal on room. But priceline had it as a 2 1/2 star rating.. I don't think that is accurate. The corridor reaked of smoke. However the room itself was clean and efficient.. Would not recommend small children or women alone some shady characters or maybe I am just paranoid.. Overall our stay was nice just don't expect any extras.
